For those unaware, the name refers to the BR55 Battle Rifle from Halo 2. (And some subsequent Halo games).
"B-X-R" was a glitched button combo that became an official part of the game because it was difficult to pull off.
The Blunt Execution Rounds perk on this weapon appears to be a reference/homage to the BXR-meta (BXR allowed skilled players to cancel the last part of their melee-animation for a quick follow-up shot).

Especially since indirect-kills caused by Incandescent (enemies burning or exploding their neighbors) interact with Demolitionist, to give grenade-energy for those kills as well.

I prefer Pugilist since I'm using a melee build, but both are good options. Use what you find fun!

With the Forerunner, we'll literally have Classic Slayer in the Crucible - the mad lads.

In all seriousness, a solid pulse rifle. It combines adaptives and rapid-fires in terms of adaptability - great hipfire like rapid-fires, but the consistency of adaptives. Can't go wrong with a good kill clip roll, or blunt execution rounds if you want to relive the days of Halo 2 PvP.

arrowhead / flared / enhanced demo / enhanced incandescent w/ reload speed masterwork might be the best PvE weapon in the sandbox right now.

insane build synergy with demo and incandescent. no need to run loaders because reload stat is 87. perfect recoil direction due to arrowhead.

it just doesn't get any better than this in the current sandbox. it's usable in all levels of content and shreds. also has the best base stats of any legendary in the game.

10/10

and of course in PvP enhanced perpetual + enhanced kill clip is a menace. no complaints.

Still earns high marks in PvP. It’s the BR, it’s gonna feel good by default.

In PvE, Adrenaline Junkie getting retired is a bit baffling, but the addition of Incandescent more than makes up for it.
I’d like to call attention to a certain combo: Pugilist/Incandescent. This can be paired with the Ember of Searing (kills on scorched targets generate melee energy) to elevate your solar melee builds. Say, rocking something like Calaban’s Hand for example. If you whiff your explosive knife, you’ll be able to get it back pretty quick just by going through some red bars.
Don’t sleep on this now that Junkie is gone, you’ve just gotta look around for different ways to use the gun. Go craft this thing.

This build is useless on titan due to the throwing hammer. Taking away adrenaline junkie hits titans hard because solar titans have that throwing hammer, which most titans use anyway. Titans really need grenades on solar, and this removal hinders grenade builds. Gutshot is a perk that never should have been added, as something similar was already tried on boolean gemini, and it was considered one of the worst exotics ever made. This is just a worse version of that, making it harder to hit the head if you try. Additionally, eye of the storm and elemental capacitor are the least popular perks here, which makes it even more baffling because it runs counter to their own stated design philosophy as stated by mercules on the destiny massive breakdown podcast just 2 episodes ago.

Couldn't you just get an Ogma if you want a solar pulse rifle with Demo/AJ? It seems like bloating of the loot pool to have two 450 RPM solar pulse rifles with that perk combo, even if their frames are slightly different aside from the RPM

Sunspots give you grenade energy on demand which incandescent can create, not to mention the BR can roll with demo… also gutshot is one of 6 2nd slot perks on this weapon, if you don’t like it you don’t have to use it.

I pulled one with hammer-forged, ricochet, demolitionist, and kill clip w/ a reload masterwork. This thing deletes guardians in crucible. Really high base stats as well with 85 aim assist and 70 recoil direction. Slap a counterbalance on for perfectly vertical recoil. The hip firing allows for radar at all times, although you trade that for a bit of impact.

Oh, and it's the battle rifle. Enough said.

There are so many good perk combos that its really hard not to find something that fits your playstyle. From the design, its basically an exotic

Hammer-Forged/Light Mag/Snapshot/Kill Clip/Range MW. This has been a satisfying roll for me. There may be better rolls to land, but the great thing about the BXR is that just about any roll you land is good right away. It just feels good, with great range, superb handling, stellar stability. Kill Clip turns it into a 2-burst kille in PvPr. About the only problem is I sometimes forget that I'm playing Destiny, not Halo (i.e. I press my Right Stick, which is my crouch, to aim. Haha.).

Blunt Execution Rounds. Any melee damage will activate a buff. The next trigger pull while the buff is active does 600% damage for each bullet for only one burst. I think this thing was built with the intent of killing champions and majors easily. In PVP this buff brings it from a 25 crit per bullet to a 60 crit per bullet. OH, and the buff activates if it's stowed. I have a couple of Blunt Execution Round rolls, but the one I'm shooting for is Arrowhead, Ricochet, Outlaw, and BER.

Superb range, handling, stability and reload, and works very nicely with Full Auto Retrofit if you like that mod.

A decent number of people seem excited about Incandecent on the BxR. I can confirm it is very easy to proc with this gun, but I think there's potentially better Incandecent guns out there like the Ammit.

The BxR is the only gun that can roll Blunt Execution Rounds though, and that perk combined with Pugalist may turn this into a Legendary Monte Carlo/primary sniper (with BER actively) hybrid in Pulse Rifle form.

A really solid unique archetype that feels good to use and puts out damage, plus allowing you to hip fire with ease, which means you can stay on the move. I enjoy the unique perks, but I've gotten the most effective use out of my Outlaw + Kill-Clip roll.

This gun's unique frame gives it intrinsic Hip Fire Grip which is useful because of it's decently high handling, so Snapshot Sights works beautifully with it quickly switching between close up and ranged. Definitely try to get one with Arrowhead to max out it's recoil control, perks and masterwork in either range and/or stability and a damage perk in the final column and you're set for any gamemode.

I'm not much of a pulse rifle fan in PvE, but the 30th Anniversary Battle Rifle pulse ABSOLUTELY SLAPS. My best one dropped with Outlaw & Kill Clip, but honestly this pulse still feels amazing with lower-tier perks. One of the few pulse rifles (and weapons in-general) that doesn't require the best perks to be effective. Not to mention it's the godd*** BR from Halo.

Absolutely love this rifle. Been lucky enough to get several good S tier rolls. Doesn't disappoint in PvP. The hip fire is pretty nice as well. Handles like a dream with very little to no recoil. If you are a fan of pulses, try this one out if you haven't already.

It’s the Battle Rifle. I don’t need any other reason. But I have other reasons anyway - Halo bias aside, it’s actually very consistent and has some interesting and fun perks like the Blunt Execution Rounds.
