Judgment of Kelgorath

"CARVE UNTO ME A TRIBUTE OF WAILING PRAYERS" —Xivu Arath, Hive God of War

*****

Häkke Foundry Rebuild-001

Designation: Experimental Project–Vanguard Clearance Approved

Work: New haft, bound in dampening weave. Blade reset with reinforced tang, sharpening not needed. Emitter fitted and recalibrated, grip and housing reconstructed to meet Human anatomy.

"Darkblade core - 1" retrieved from onsite by Guardian operator.

Hive inscriptions decoded by operator, Osiris. Translation of experiential record imprint as follows:

*****

The black-flame projection of Xivu Arath fills the Martian cavern. Below her, Kelgorath's broken blade rests atop a ritual altar—both are inlaid with runes caked in dried blood layered like stratum.

An ornately adorned Wizard presides over the communal ceremony. They motion to the blade.

"This one has failed you many times."

The cavern quakes with Xivu's whispered reply.

RUIN BIRTHS RENEWAL

She reaches through her projection and coaxes the blade into the air, then cleaves hefts of the heavy Hive metal from the weapon. What remains is a dark sliver. An imitation of Xivu's black edge.

AS VICTORY'S HAMMER SHAPES, SO DOES FAILURE'S CHISEL

The blade is reforged, a razor of painless edge and subtle ends.
WORTH SHALL BE MEASURED…

Xivu Arath twists her claws. A haft condenses from swirling soulfire into solid stone and bonds to the blade. By her voice, the weapon is anointed.

…AND JUDGMENT PASSED

At her command, a tear into the Ascendant Plane bursts open before her. Kelgorath steps from the portal.

"What can this humble servant offer Death?"

The cavern fills with her answer.

CLAIM MARS; POSSESS THE WARMIND

Kelgorath barely recognizes the blade he once pledged to Savathûn, now remade as he has been. He grips it, and in his grasp, it sprouts into a wicked axe, cored by a sliver of Xivu Arath's might.

RISE, KELGORATH, DARKBLADE

Whoever at Bungie designed the Close to Melee perk bless your soul.

This new Glaive is easily the best legendary one available to date, has a wide selection of PvE and PvP perks that can be used for any Glaive play style, if you just like meleeing everything then the Close to Melee perk is the best pick, it adds 30% bonus damage to the melee attacks after getting a kill with the projectile and can be infinitely refreshed on projective or melee hits, pair that with Wormgods, Winter’s Guile, Karnstein’s, Synthos or even Necrotic Grips and you’ve got yourself a melee machine as all of these interact with the melee side of Glaives!
Otherwise if you run Glaives for the sole purpose of the projectile or shields only then Immovable Object/Unstoppable Force is a great combo, but you can sub out either of these for stuff like Incandescent or Overflow and Demo for auto reloads or even run Impulse to speed the projectile up.
It has tons of potential for everyone and because of that I think it’s an S-Tier special weapon, really is just a great Glaive overall.

For PvP though I just recommend going for something that’s going to make this snappy as with it being an Aggressive frame like the exotic Warlock exclusive Glaive it’s quite slow and sluggish, so Impulse Amplifier and probably Tilting at Windmills is a decent combo to mess around with, it’ll make shots travel faster making hitting your targets more consistent but then Windmills will make you move faster while blocking, making you harder to keep track of.
Maybe not the best Glaive for PvP but still really solid.

So, I have one of these crafted now and my personal favourite roll is; high shield duration (including MW) for busted high DR on the fly, which is perfect for high tier content and for getting revives off for free without needing invis, a mag increasing perk, Enhanced Overflow and Enhanced Close to Melee.
Having Overflow means I don’t really ever need to reload the Glaive, which is nice because my personal favourite play style is just meleeing things, but having all of those extra shots in the mag means easy access to shield energy for later without needing to care about managing ammo or the mag itself, it’s awesome!
Demolitionist can also be subbed in for Overflow if you prefer that kind of free reloading, as you also get bonus grenade energy on projectile kills too, kind of a pick your poison situation.

Overall as mentioned above it’s an amazing Glaive, and if you’re a Glaive fanatic like I am you will LOVE this one, highly recommend grinding for!

What would you recommend for mag perks? I've been debating over appended or light mag.

Appended or even Extended personally, I run Overflow so reloading isn't really needed but having more shots to save shield energy up with or just hit things from far away without needing to worry about how many shots I'll have thanks to enhanced overflow is pretty great.

New aggressive glaive archetype does 15% more projectile damage than adaptive glaives, but shoots about 20% slower.
New Close to Melee perk gives 30% more melee damage after a projectile kill, refreshes on any glaive damage.
Surrounded STILL doesn't work on glaive melees.
I think the best roll here is Overflow + Close to Melee, it eliminates the worst part of glaives, the low mag size and horrible reload, and buffs the main reason you're using them, the melee. Genesis gets an honorable mention though, as well as Unstoppable Force despite the nerf (20% damage now instead of 30%, but the aggressive archetype's 15% damage over other glaives counters this). A majority of other perks either just don't even work on the melee, or already exist on other glaives and aren't worth mentioning.

Overflow and Close to Melee is one of the most fun combos I have ran on a glaive. Overflow plus Incandescent would be great as well. This can roll demo or pugilist which is a great substitute for ability focused builds. I also love the flame that is on the end of this weapon and it has a laser sight.

Something unique about this weapon that you may not know; it's the only one in the game aside from the DCS sword that can roll Enhanced Wellspring and Enhanced Demolitionist or Pugilist. That makes it the best ability regen special weapon in the entire game, restoring nearly your entire grenade in two kills (and you can build into it further with HoIL, devour, Elemental Ordinance, etc). Stack it with Syntho and you may lose some pure damage output as compared to Frenzy or CTM, but you can offset that with constant grenades that weaken and proc volatile.

not a glaive guy but overflow feels great on this as it circumvents the problem of glaives having small "mags" and long reloads. other than that you probably didn't even notice that it's a new archetype, because it's basically exactly the same. slightly slower rate of fire for "improved" damage, but i'd have to see a damage test to figure out if it does all that much more damage than the default glaive archetype. if we get another glaive archetype after this i'd like to see it have a different type of projectile as the glaive projectile still just feels clunky and weak.

Incandescent provides that explosive kick that glaives have really been missing. With this perk, Kelgorath feels like a weapon I would actually want to keep in my inventory when preparing for a raid. Also, it just looks dope as hell
