TIP: New Season & Popularity Ranks
It's a new season! Popularity ranks can change rapidly at the start of a new season, especially on new weapons.
Be careful jumping to conclusions for a week or so as the meta starts to shake out.
TIP: Popularity Ranks
The letters F thru S below are Popularity Ranks. They measure how popular your roll is versus the most popular roll for this weapon among the global community. The most popular roll is ranked S+. The least popular is ranked F-. Popular doesn't necessarily mean "good"; unpopular doesn't necessarily mean "bad". Use what you enjoy!

On SMGs on the other hand I always prefer feeding frenzy. And for some weird reason feeding frenzy also seems underrated nowadays.
KIlling Tally has obviously been tuned down but is still a strong damage option, especially when playing Warlock with Rain of Fire, as the Icarus Dash reloads the weapon without dropping the buff.
This makes field prep the best choice for the first perk, by far. Add one reserve mod for 345 bullets on a 360 RPM machine gun that you never gonna need to reload.
I still think Incandescent is the better choice but Killing Tally is a very close second.
If, for some reason, you happen to get 5 deepsights, i'd recommend the following setups:
Barrel:
Arrowhead Break (Boosts recoil direction to 96)
Mag:
Accurized Rounds for Warlocks (Mag size doesn't matter as Icarus Dash only has 4 seconds cooldown)
Extended Mag for Titans (to abuse Actium War Ring)
Extended Mag for Hunters (Gamblers Dodge)
Tactical Mag as a generalist option (to boost reload closer to 50, resulting in 100 reload speed when paired with Field Prep, while adding some bullets)
Perk 1:
Field prep is the best option, even without reload exotics. Auto Loading isn't a thing on this weapon and while Feeding Frenzy isn't bad, Field prep isn't much slower in terms of reload while adding a ton of reserves.
Perk 2:
Incandescent or Killing Tally.
Try Font of Might + High Energy Fire on this thing. It slaps.
Synergises really well with Solar 3.0.
A problem for craftable Incandescent weapons is their range. Calus Mini-Tool and Drang, while great, require you to get close. Beloved has the range, but nobody is going to be clearing adds with a sniper rifle due to both the ammo reserves and difficulty of use.
Then there's Fixed Odds.
It's the perfect Enhanced Incandescent weapon. Not only do you get range, but you get a hefty punch with each round thanks to the high-impact frame. You can fire off each round one by round and treat it like a scout rifle. Each kill will spread Scorch, and thanks to Enhanced Incandescent and the Ember of Torches fragments, you'll be causing Ignitions constantly from a relatively safe range.
As I stated earlier, this is the dream weapon for a Solar Warlock using Divinity. Put on the exotic helm Dawn Chorus to buff you Scorch damage by 3X. Don't want to kill a 2nd mob in a group to cause an Ignition? The Scorch damage will often be more than enough to kill whatever is affected. Running harder content? The additional Scorch damage will make a 2nd kill that much easier to cause an Ignition. On top of that, you'll be getting your melee back extremely quickly thanks to Dawn Chorus feeding you melee energy each time your Scorch effects deal damage. With your melee coming back so quickly, it will be easy to keep Radiant up on both yourself and nearby allies with Ember of Torches. Feel free to put on Melee Wellmaker to start generating Solar Wells for any Well build you want to utilize.
While the above can be achieved with Drang or Calus Mini-Tool, I cannot stress how much easier it is with Fixed Odds thanks to both the raw damage of the high-impact machine gun frame and the range. While machine guns are in an odd spot in terms of having to sacrifice your heavy weapon that is often used for boss damage, they're a must for Divinity users. For Solar Divinity users, especially Warlocks, go farm yourself the weapon pattern for Fixed Odds. You'll never want to put it down, and with 414 bullets at your disposal with enhanced Field Prep and double reserves, you will never have to put it down. Both the range and raw damage make Fixed Odds the best Incandescent weapon in the game, and I would say, the absolute best mob clear weapon in the game as well.
It's also worth mentioning that with Enhanced Field Prep you can hold 324 ammo, on top of which you could also add ammo reserve mods.
In my opinion the godroll is Fluted / Tactical / E. Field Prep / E. Incandescent / Reload MW. Definitely worth the ascendant alloys.
I'd look elsewhere for PvP.
BARREL: Either ARROWHEAD BRAKE or FLUTED BARREL. Both are great picks, and my personal choice was Arrowhead for recoil purposes. However, if you are comfortable with the recoil already, pick Fluted for the extra stats.
MAGAZINE: Either TACTICAL MAGAZINE or EXTENDED MAGAZINE. Tactical Mag provides a boost to magazine size while not completely destroying the reload speed. However, if you run an Actium War Rig titan or a class with some sort of auto-reload, the extra bullets with extended mag (48 to 57 to be exact) are undoubtedly better. For general play, I suggest Tac Mag however.
PERK 1: FIELD PREP ENHANCED. Feeding Frenzy is also a good shout here, but I think Field Prep is too slept-on of a perk for you to not have it. With this perk, you can hold 394 rounds with no solar reserves. 394. This is absolutely nuts. Use Field Prep Enhanced, please. On top of this, you can just crouch to get a pseudo Feeding Frenzy x5 reload speed anyways!
PERK 2: Either KILLING TALLY ENHANCED or INCANDESCENT ENHANCED. My personal pick was Incandescent for the build I run, allowing for insane amounts of ignitions with minimal effort put in. Quite literally, two or three kills would spread enough scorch to ignite the rest of the enemies that didn't already die. However, Killing Tally is also an amazing choice here. If you are an Actium War Rig titan, having Killing Tally fully activated while constantly having it be reloaded quite literally makes you feel like Rambo himself. My PERSONAL suggestion would be Incandescent Enhanced, but you are in no way wrong for choosing Killing Tally Enhanced as well. It should be noted that KTE also gives a boost to magazine size as well, if you feel that the 48 rounds aren't enough.
In short, this weapon is FULLY worth grinding Duality for. Go get this pattern, you won't regret it in the slightest. Also, for PVP, pick another LMG. It's not bad at all by any stretch of the imagination, but other LMG's (like Qullim's Terminus or even Commemoration) are just simply better. That's it, get to grinding!
This weapon will one or two shot most on-level minor enemies while also causing massive splash damage. One could easily get 400+ kills from just the starting reserves of this weapon, which should be more than enough to last any ad clear heavy encounter.
I think this gun is heavily slept on in PvP and I use a roll with max range (98) and it has under pressure + killing tally. Under pressure (enhanced) grants +35 stability and makes the thing a headshot machine! Killing tally enables super easy multi-kills as just one stack allows a 4-crit kill. I use backup mag and I could see an argument for using extended mag too, as the larger the magazine of a gun, the more shots you pull from the heavy brick, at least in the context of machine guns.
BARRELS : Either Arrowhead Brake or Fluted Barrel, both give a good boost to handling and stability (or recoil, in arrowhead's case)
MAGS : Tactical Mag's the way to go, more ammo, better stats, this baby will feel just like an adaptive that hits like an high impact
1ST COLLUMN : Enhanced Field Prep not only increases your reserves by A LOT, it also makes you reload unbelievably fast when crouching, add to that a bonus to stats that matter and you'll feel a real difference
2ND COLLUMN : Now there are 2 schools for the last perk. Some will take advantage of exotics like Actium War Rig and use Enhanced Killing Tally to push the perk to its absolute limits. But most people will go for Enhanced Incandescent. Seriously, ONE kill in a pack of enemies to burn them all to ashes, this almost feels illegal to use.
MASTERWORK :Up to you ! Can't go wrong even tho i wouldn't recommend reload speed since you've got field prep and tactical mag vouching for it already. Personally I went for some extra stability but range or handling are also good picks.
And now you've got yourself the ultimate ad-clearing weapon of mass destruction that will be your best friend from casual patrols to even the hardest endgame content, go wild !
PvP not particularly interesting at best, simply bad at worst.
"take it in the field. trust me. this gun doesn't make sense until the pressure's on. and you're not the first to have reservations about it."
the hunter holds the gun, weighing it apprehensively.
"i can even retool it if you need something different later. or make you a whole new one with tweaks."
"but it feels like i'm shooting from the back of a golf cart on an EDZ highway."
this time it is the gunsmith who remains silent.
"i'm serious."
"so am i."
...
a titan and warlock squint through smoke and flame. the air reeks of gunpowder and charred flesh.
"what's going on over there? i can't see!"
"i can hear more coming!"
the hunter behind them stops shooting for a moment.
"just a sec..."
his fireteam looks on in awe as he reloads the garishly opulent machine gun faster than either of them thought possible. he giggles like a small child at an amusement park.
"banshee wasn't kidding about this piece. glad i listened to him."
"but...the Hive just a moment ago...that was YOU?"
"darn tootin."
underneath their helmets the titan and warlock grin, now sharing their teammate's glee. they take the time to breath and enjoy the moment. it's been a long strike.
as the next wave of Hive is about to come into range the hunter returns to the improvised gunner's nest behind his friends' firing line and shouts back,
"post up, guardians! it's time to set the world on fire!"
...
feeding frenzy/killing tally (incandescent if you want solar 3.0 synergy, which i usually do) for add clear, field prep/firing line for boss dps, under pressure/rangefinder for pvp.
grind for the recipe. there is no legendary solar lmg in any archetype that can compete with this one in any combat role (properly configured).
building for range, stability, or handling depends on the use case and your play style, but this gun has sneaky ways of getting around its horrendously long reload animation: feeding frenzy in add clear roles, field prep during boss dps, and when do u ever reload an lmg in pvp anyway.
not a whole lot of guns i've crafted multiple of, esp not ones i secretly hate as much as this one (it feels horrid to shoot and even when i'm hitting my shots i worry about staying on target).
but it's worth it.
this gun is super slept on in PVP. arrowhead/accurized/under pressure/rangefinder. tried it out in gambit and crucible. the only thing that reliably counters it at long range (which is where you want to be most of the time when invading or defending in gambit) is thunderlord, which shoots faster and stays on target better. adaptive and rapid fire lmgs can't compete with this thing's ludicrous range (at least if crafted with range in mind), and it flinches snipers and leviathan's breath like mad if they take a split second too long to pop off or else if they miss that pivotal first shot.
in crucible you have shorter lanes and none of the invader perks, which makes for more surprise encounters against players who manage to get closer than you'd like. still tho, this is the only gun other than cry mutiny that i've gotten 3 kills to a brick on.
overall 10/10 would slap caiatl again
