Comparing Yesteryear and The Messenger:
TL;DR: Yesteryear and The Messenger both roll the most important perks, but Yesteryear has a stronger origin trait. Yesteryear has an edge over availability as it's in a permanent gamemode that is FTP. However, Yesteryear has 12 perks per column, while The Messenger only has 7.

Yesteryear can roll with a lot of great perks in both columns, including the OP perk Desperado. In column 1, Yesteryear has different perks from The Messenger. Yesteryear can roll with Subsistence, Tunnel Vision, Under Pressure, and Steady Hands in column 1, while The Messenger can roll with Rapid Hit, Encore, Killing Wind, and Moving target in the 1st column. Both can roll Outlaw, which has insane synergy with Desperado. Both roll with the #1 perk Desperado, but if you don't want that for some reason, they have some slight differences. Yesteryear gets Rampage and Dragonfly, while The Messenger gets Kill Clip.
The origin trait is really what sells Yesteryear for me. Yesteryear has Gun & Run and Suros Synergy, while The Messenger has Alacrity and One Quiet Moment. Gun & Run isn't insane, but if you want to have a fast-paced rapid kill game, it's nice. Suros Synergy is something else though. On reload, you get bonus handling and less flinch. This is really strong with Desperado + Outlaw, a reload based combo. Alacrity and One Quiet Moment don't benefit you much, especially OQM, which requires you to be OUT of combat to get the buff. Alacrity only triggers in Rumble or if you're last alive in Survival or Elmination/Trials.
Yesteryear also has another HUGE advantage over The Messenger because it is in Gambit, which is a gamemode that is always available, for free. The Messenger drops in Trials, which is only on the weekend and requires The Witch Queen to access.
But one thing that is bad for Yesteryear is the perk pollution. Yesteryear has 12 perks in the 2 perk columns, meaning the chances of an Outlaw + Desperado roll is 1/144. However, The Messenger has only 7 perks per column, and leads to a 1/49 chance for Outlaw + Desperado. So basically, You are 3x more likely to get a Messenger godroll over a Yesteryear godroll.

despite the perk choices being polluted, you do have to keep in mind that gambit is always available at all times, and the fact that you can get double and triple perks which can double or triple your odds at getting a god roll.

Outlaw+Desperado for Pve does wonders, as it does for pvp as well. Under-over is really being slept on for Pvp, and is a nice addition since overshields have been getting more prevalent and helps to deal with it.

Everyone see Desperado, so everyone goes with Outlaw too, seems logical, but have you fought about Ambitious Assasins with Desperado?
Because I will absolutly go for that roll instead!

But getting alot of ambitious assassins bullets means u cant reload. Meaning u will at times be forced to shoot ur mag all the way down to ur normal size just so you can do the reload to proc desperado. It sounds nice on paper, but its ultimately pretty unsynergistic.

This gun was a surprise to be sure but a pleasant one regardless. It’s an adaptive frame so it’s sturdy and reliable in most if not all situations. It’s main drawback of course if the fact that it has a total of 12 perks to choose from and out of all of them a couple are worthwhile. It also suffers from being a random drop form gambit match completions. You either one with like extended mag, Smallbore, ensemble and gut shot strait or you get the God Roll or the Jesus roll with like richochet, outlaw/perpetual and desperado. The gun is good don’t get me wrong, it just suffers from perk bloat and RNG. So better have a ghost shell that you use for gambit drops. But once the season is over you can start to get a horde of gambit engrams and focus them at Drifter to get your godroll Yesteryear. Also if you wanna compare it to the king of legendary pulses that is Messenger, one’s easier to grind and always available. The other is currently unavailable and only available on weekends gamemode wise. Assuming it isn’t Iron Banner week or you’re out of town or busy with other things.

TL;DR Gun is good, just has a lot to pick from.

For pve I’m looking for a subsistence golden tricorn roll. Get a kill toss a grenade then you get volatile rounds that deal 50% extra damage. Subsistence keeps you from reloading during that damage boost window.

Pretty solid perks overall and performs quite well in PvE in both clearing adds and dealing somewhat decent damage against stronger targets. In PvP it kind of feels off, but that could be due to my personal preference of not being a big fan of pulse rifles with a lower RPM. Still, an overall good gun.

Yesteryear is getting a lot of hype for Desperado, and rightfully so for PVE, especially when boosting magazines with the now-powerful Ambitious Assassin. However in PVP, it probably deserves a bit of skepticism, for a few reasons:
1.) Yesteryear has 17 zoom, limiting it to around 37.75m (sacrificing stability with Full Bore). Last Perdition can achieve up to 23 zoom, and an effective range of over 50 meters, a range where slower TTKs are marginally more acceptable.
2.) Yesteryear has a base TTK of .93s, which is 2.33 bursts. With Desperado, you still have to hit 5c2b for a kill.
3.) Kill Clip on Last Perdition is a 5c or 4c2b, with a similar TTK as Desperado, but it doesn't change the ROF, and can be procced off of a bodyshot kill.

Desperado does have the advantage of being able to refresh, where Kill Clip does not, so that works in its favor-- and Desperado is objectively more fun, but it doesn't immediately make this pulse better than a lot of others we already have for PVP. Know its limitations, and this will put in work, but don't expect Desperado to truly shine here due to that requisite third burst.

(PvP)

What immediately comes to attention is Outlaw + Desperado, but I would actually shoot for Ensemble + Desperado in order to make better use of the Suros Origin Trait flinch reduction before engaging in a fight. Golden Tricorne also piques my interest because a 7-second 1-kill, no-hoops damage buff on a weapon that can 2-burst with it is always appreciated.

I think Tunnel Vision/Desperado would be great as well. Both activate at the same time so it's great synergy. In theory, should make it feel really sticky when you are spraying with desperado

Depends on your playstyle. I don’t like perpetual as a warlock player because using my rift takes away my stacks, but if you’re a roaming hunter perpetual is a good choice, Ensemble gives a 40+ reload boost compared to Perpetual’s max 15+ though, and the other benefits I feel are excessive as Adaptives have decent stability already and the Origin trait helps with handling.

Besides from the fact that this only drops randomly from gambit games, this thing is a monster in both pve and pvp.

For pvp, as everyone has seen and has pointed out: it's a 390 with Desperado. If this is your cup of tea, then go crazy. It has great synergy with Outlaw, Perpetual Motion, and the Suros foundry perk. For those who don't like the inconsistent feeling of going from a higher rate of fire back and forth, you still have good options, but High Impacts and rapid-Fire pulses are very meta right now and can outshine this archetype in most ranges. The 390 archetype is still a solid feel, but that recoil direction does leave a lot to be desired.

For PvE, this thing I'd argue is slept on for anyone looking for void synergy. In terms of void pulse rifles, you had Gridskipper; which had okay at best pve perks, Last Perdition; which is a watered down version of this pulse rifle, and Collective Obligation, which despite the buffs it received is very void ability dependent. This thing has many unique combination of pve powerhouses. Subsistence, Outlaw/ Perpetual, any damage perk, and a new sleeper this season: Ambitious Assassin. I have a pve roll with Ambitious, Dragonfly with an extended mag and dragonfly spec. After a few headshot kills on some lower tiered enemies, it goes from a 45 mag to 114. You heard that right, 114 rounds in a pulse rifle. It can still chunk in higher end content, especially if you go for higher damage perks like Multi-Kill Clip or Golden Tricorn.

Tl:DR: Definitely try this rifle out if you like pulse rifles and if you are needing some void options. I know arc is very popular right now, and solar is literally unkillable to warlock and titan, but for us void hunters, if you want a solid pve pulse that can synergize with your abilities, here you go.

Maybe Spinosaurus meant more the lack of love (which can't be really argued) the mode gets and not the mode itself. I mean how many new and fresh maps did gambit get since shadowkeep? And how many were vaulted? I can understand that players want to protect their favorite game modes, but let's be real.
