4/17/2023 update: Reordered recommended third column perks, and added build suggestions.

TL;DR, Use this with Solar Hunter, using Acrobat's Dodge and weighted throwing knife for a competitive off-meta pick in both PvP and PvE. Being radiant gives it a very fast TTK. These are my God Rolls:
6v6 PvP and low density PvE: Heating Up and Golden Tricorn
3v3 PvP: Explosive Payload and Opening Shot, Rapid Hit, or Snapshot
High Density PvE: Stats for All and Incandescent

Trust has always been a fan favorite, and for good reason. Now that it has been reintroduced with a wider perk pool (and yes, you get double perks after a reset), it is even better. I have grinded quite a few resets (including three resets in the first week of Lightfall), and have tried out just about every perk individually on this weapon. I feel that this weapon really benefits the most from as much range and stability as you can get it. My personal favorite for feel is Smallbore Accurized Rounds, but you can feel out if you like Steady Rounds or Full Bore more. It has a hidden +25 to its Airborne Effectiveness stat that is not documented on the stat screen. This means at base, you actually have 35 AE, and an Icarus Grip and Extended Mag pops this up to 60. I find the handling good enough on its own, so I avoid handling perks when I can. You are going to get a lot of these before you find the one you like, so buckle in.

For third column perks, you have a lot of good options. Personally, as someone who plays a lot of PvP on Controller, I would rank them Heating Up > Opening Shot > Rapid Hit > Hip Fire Grip > Everything else. I've moved Heating Up to the top because Triple Solar Targeting is super easy to apply with the artifact mod, and gives you 98 Aim Assist off the bat. That combined with Heating Up makes body shots hard to hit. The damage profile of Trust makes it so you can still get the 4-tap kill way outside of its recommended range, and while Opening helps with that, it isn't mandatory.

Here are my thoughts on the fourth column perks.

"WIN NOW" PERKS:

Explosive Payload is a very good choice in both PvP and PvE. In PvP, EP seems to make hit registration much better and seems to increases flinch against players. Playing against an 180 that has EP is a noticeable struggle to stay on target, and it makes using the weapon feel much easier. The ~15% damage buff in PvE is noticeable, and spreading splash damage is great. In low density activities, the flat boost in damage is better than a more conventional add-clear perk like Dragonfly or Incandescent, of which this gun also has. Explosive Payload also makes Vorpal Weapon somewhat redundant.

Rangefinder is good, and yes it adds 4 meters to a max range roll, but on Trust, I feel Explosive payload does its job better.

Eye of the Storm has an absolutely huge benefit in PvP. As a 180, you *will* have a longer TTK than your opponent, so making sure you hit your shots is crucial. But making your enemies miss with EP or getting a 0.66 TTK with GT is better.

If you are playing content with high add density, Incandescent is the obvious choice, and synergizes with weighted throwing knife for surprisingly good add clear. That said, Dragonfly still holds its own given the higher base damage.

"WIN LATER" PERKS:

As always, Golden Tricorn is extremely underused on this weapon. Golden Tricorn is a flat-out powercrept version of rampage. On the first weapon kill, it does 15% more damage for 7 seconds. That is 1.5x rampage's buff for 2x as long. Absolutely cracked perk. The only downside is that it is not refreshable. However, if you are able to keep up Tricorn x2 in any activity, you feel like a monster, and it is easier than you would imagine in PvE with the new ways of maintaining ability energy in PvE. in PvP, Tricorn x2 is surprisingly easy to get going, especially using Throwing Knives. In addition, solar subclasses have access to Ember of Torches which gives radiant. Combining Radiant with Tricorn x2 (very easy using Athrys's embrace), makes the weapon do 100 damage per headshot. That 2-taps up to 100 resilience, with an eye-watering 0.33 second TTK. I have a clip of me getting a kill with the base weapon, getting a Celestial fire kill, then taking down an entire squad of three guardians with this in under three seconds. This weapon feels built to synergize with Hunter's Weighted Knife.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Trust is an absolutely incredible handcannon. I believe it hangs with Zaouli as one of the best PvE cannons, and it is stronger than I had initially thought in PvP. 180s have the most forgiving base TTK at 2 crit 2 body, but the downside of taking a full second to kill is pretty big. I had initially given it a 4/5 in PvP, but now that I have played with it on and off for the season, I can confidently give it a 5/5 IF you are using Acrobat Dodge before every encounter.

The Gambit man comes to us with the return of his most iconic weapon, freed from the shackles of Sunsetting with a cavalcade of perks to choose from. Whether you're rolling in PvE (this bad boy rolls with Incandescent, which can be paired with Rapid Hit and Outlaw) or PvP (Heating Up/Rapid Hit/Snapshot/OPENING SHOT in Column 3, Harmony/Eye of the Storm/Rangefinder/Explosive Payload in Column 4), so long as you like 180rpm Hand Cannons, you can Trust this Hand Cannon, Brothers and Sisters.

The 180 King is back. Still feels like its in its own archetype incredibly snappy and responsive while just pumping out rounds on target. Little bummed that Dragonfly isn't in the 3rd column like it was in Forsaken but Incandescent makes up for it in the 4th. Obviously EP is always king giving damage for nothing, but solar Golden Tricorn is stupid easy to keep up.

The Sexiest 180 is back and better than ever. An expanded perk pool gives more people a reason to want one, because it can suit all your play styles. Explosive/Outlaw, Incandecent/Triple tap, Rapid hit/Dragonfly, hipfire/ rampage are all fantastic combos for the weapon. 10/10 YEE HAW BABY

Trust is back, and although it can no longer rock Dragonfly + Rampage, its got plenty of good perks including Incandescent and Frenzy in the 4th column.

Statwise and perkwise Frontier's Cry is probably a better 180 Energy HC for PvP, but that gun's not available anymore (EDIT: you can still do focused decoding, forgot about that), plus Trust is sexier. Sometimes that's all that matters

Golden Tricon is pretty disgusting paired with Solar. Ability up time is so high on Solar, that you can have a very reliable damage up.
Titan especially, with how easy hammer kills are, Burning Steps is insane if you can keep the damage rolling. Triple stacking buffs of Tricon + Radiant + Firewalker is no joke.

I just want to say that Stats for All is criminally underrated on this gun. That +10 range boost + reload speed boost + huge handling bump feels amazing, and if you pair it with incandescent or explosive in PvE it's hard not to proc it. Highly recommend giving it a try, especially with the upcoming hand cannon PVE buff

Alright gambit, here I come.

Edit: I played 2 whole games of gambit and got

Chambered/Smallbore
Accurized/Appended
Rapid Hit
Incandescent
Stability MW

Its not a god roll, but I'll fuckin take it.

Great gun, easily my favorite 180. Would recommend.

It's a 180 HC so people look past it...
But lets look at the perks.
Stuff like Outlaw, Rapid Hit, Triple Tap, Envious, Heating Up in the third column backed by stuff like Rampage, Incandescent, Explosive Payload, Tricorn and Vorpal Weapon.

I'm currently hunting down a roll of:
- Extended Barrel
- Tactical Mag
- Triple Tap
- Vorpal
and I'm looking to pair this with Lucky Pants for a decent rapid damage weapon (as a cheaper alternative to Seventh Seraph Officer Revolver w/ FTTC and VW)

Trust is still among my 10 favourite cannons, which I will put below for all you interested (so basically nobody), but yeah its fun, Explosive Payload adds a surprising amount of flinch and its basically a flashbang so you can disorient enemies too.

Personal Favourite top 10 HC in order:
- Zaouli's Bane
- The Last Word
- Word of Crota
- Eyasluna
- Survivor's Epitaph
- Fatebringer (Timelost)
- Ace of Spades
- Sunshot
- Trust
- Austringer

I tried it in PVP and it's better than I thought. Of course there are better options, but it's a nice looking gun and it has a great perk pool for both PVE and PVP. It also accepts the old ornaments, if you got them back in the day.

My favorite for PVE is the maybe boring but classic perk combo of damage perk (rampage for example or explosive payload) plus rapid hit.

Sunsetiting is being reversed, if you have an old version of this gun with dragonfly and rampage it'll be better than this new version. We're so back.

Chambered Comp. + Accurized + Snapshot + Rangefinder = A great all-rounder primary. I can 3-4 tap people while still doing decent damage in pvp. It also has a pretty solid perk pool for those that like more specialized perks.

There might be some bias as Trust is my favorite Hand Cannon in Destiny 2 and is the first one that I actually enjoyed to use. When it comes to 140s, 120s, and even the former 150s that are nearly all gone suffice for Sunshot, I never liked the recoil animation. Sure, the recoil wasn't actually that much, but the way the gun flipped and you lose sight of... well, the sights, always threw me off in the early days. Trust, being a 180, just bounces up and down a little bit like a semi-auto sidearm, and I do like my sidearms. Hardly loses sight of it. And Trust has a clean sight picture too, with or without the Doubt Ornament. Even today, I sometimes find Trust to just work better for me at times, despite having the infamously slow optimal TTK of 1 second.

For PvE, I like using Trust. 180s don't really have an issue there and it's capable of one-shoting adds while having the higher rate of fire of the archetype. Incandescent, Dragonfly, Rampage, and Golden Tricorn are all perfectly adequate perks for PvE, though, I think Incandescent would be a favorite pick since everyone loves some nice scorch stacks. You can go with Vorpal, but I think there are other weapons you'd rather use for fighting bosses, but hey, 20% is 20%.

For PvP, I like to roll with either Snapshot or Rapid Hit for the third column perk, and Explosive Payload, Eye of The Storm, or even Vorpal Weapon on the fourth column if I'm feeling balsey (or dumb) enough to try to shut down a super. Personally, I'd recommend Rapid Hit + Eye of The Storm or Range Finder.

One thing to note on Explosive Payload is a little... weird in the current sandbox. I don't know the details or all the numbers, or if it's just a bug or whatnot, so don't quote me on this, but from what I've heard and understand, Explosive Payload's 50% damage split is body shot damage. So you're dealing 50% crit + 50% bodyshot damage or something like that. That means that crit damage us reduced. I don't know about 180s, but from a video I saw, it actually makes 140s fail to 3 tap heads because of half the damage no longer counting as a crit. Yes, it will flinch enemies like nuts, but it is worth keeping in mind.

This right here....

Let me start by saying I'm the type of Hunter that likes my guns to have a certain look (leaning more to the spacey/futuristic vibe) so when I got my first Trust...I was...eh.

I looked at my roll (outlaw and explosive payload) and figured I'd try it a few times and vault it. That was 1,021 kills ago.

I am a huge fan of precision frames and this evil SOB is a dependable assassin of whatever I point it at. This stays on me...especially now that HCs stun unstoppables.

You want this HC. You want to get in Gambit, get emgrams, and focus one.

3rd column options: Outlaw for your fast reload time with precision kills (and as stable as this is....you'll be getting lots), Snapshot, Triple Tap, Rapid Hit, Heating up are good ones
4th: Explosive payload is top notch...you want this. Dragonfly is good. Rampage and Incandescent if you want to play that way.

My only gripe on mine is I don't have a reload masterwork but outlaw does me just fine. This is a solid energy HC and I love every bit of it. I tried Cantana (because of the look) but everything about trust just feels awesome/right.
