This is a fantastic strand option in PvE and PvP.

PvE:
If you are looking for an SMG, you will simply not get a better strand option.
For column 1 you will be mainly wanting Keep Away or Threat Detector. Both are great options in their own niche, but I find in PvE that Threat Detector is a little more consistently useful.
Column 2 has many fantastic choices: Hatchling, Demolitionist, and Target Lock are likely your best options depending on your needs.
It hardly needs to be said, but Field-Tested is a fantastic origin trait for PvE, and really pushes this weapon over the edge.

PvP:
I'm convinced this is the best weapon in PvP as of right now. Amazing stats, aggressive SMG's are OP, and you simply cannot get better perks.
You will no doubt want Keep Away + Killing Wind. Rangefinder and Tap the Trigger fill their own niches too and are fantastic in their own right. Field-Tested will be the origin trait of choice unless you're doing trials.

However, if you are a confident PvP'er in competitive playlists, you probably already know how busted Rangefinder + Target Lock is. Optimally you will see a .56s TTK on 8 headshots, and that is just exceptional. Rangefinder increases the range of this optimal TTK as well. In casual playlists I'd stick with the above rolls, but you cannot beat this combo in the 1v1.

Your a little misunderstood in the pvp side, see the power of target lock is not the increase to it's ttk as it doesn't save as many bullets compared to kill clip, but rather that you can hit 2-3 body shots and still kill in only one more bullet than if you were optimal. That's a 2 body 7 head or for lower Resilience (I think it's below t7 or 8) 3 body 6 head, which makes this a killing machine even for players with lower accuracy and it doesn't require anything else to proc. Otherwise, ignore killing wind and go for kill clip for a backup roll, anything after kill clip is mostly pointless and this is the column you should focus on as anything + target lock will do worlds better than any rangefinder roll that isn't kill clip or target

Bungie introduced sunsetting to remove guns weaker than this. I don't know what they were thinking.

I’m a pve main and not really found of trials. But I spent a whole weekend grinding for this gun.
For pve, I go for hatchling and threat detector. This combination shines for me as SMG usually goes in close combat. Hatchling match perfect with strand build
For pvp, the gun has a great stability and effective range feel. Range finder/keep away + target lock are the rolls I’m chasing

The stupidest weapon to ever exist, created with a mixture of hatred for all life, bad game balancing, and not knowing what the touch of a woman feels like. This SMG is absurdly strong in PVP content, even with its seemingly low drop-off range, having an extremely low TTK even without much experience with SMGs in general. You don't even need cognitive sentience to use The Immortal, all you need is the bare minimum of moving fingers, and the game plays itself for you. This gun is so braindead it makes shotgun apes look like a skillful playstyle because at least shotguns have downsides. And considering it's a Trials weapon, it's not simple to get either, though that doesn't stop everyone and their grandmother from using it in Crucible.

It's alright in PVE as it's basically an SMG but really good.

Okay. This thing's a freaking monster. Shreds like nobody's watching. But, there's one place this thing actually shines that people don't really say: PvE. When you have a really good roll, it's difficult for this to be beaten by anything else than an adept version. 10/10 would lose my sanity for again.

Pvp: THE pvp smg, its like getting hit in the face with 50 tons of concrete whenever you fight this thing.
-AR range

Pve: Kinda mid ngl, I would not bother farming atm
-1rst column perks are underwhelming
-demo, hatchling, target lock 2nd column are good
-power crept by new raid strand smg which has overall better perks

This thing is absolute beast. I don't ever do Trials and I had to get out my comfort zone that is PvE to get this gun. And it was worth it. The roll Saint sells in week 5 of the season is pretty much the PvE godroll. So much better than Terminal Overload SMG.

And obviously it's very good in PvP too. Meanwhile I never tried it myself in PvP I've been destroyed by it many times.

Currently the best strand weapon in PVE. An aggressive frame smg with threat detector and hatchling, only thing that would be better is a gun with hatchling and a damage perk (and knowing bungie that will probably happen sometime in the future). Only reason its not 5 stars is because of this. However for PvP, even a semi god-roll is very competitive with the crafted ikelos purely because of rangefinder and target lock. If you get the 5 out of 5 use it as much as possible because that shit is gonna get nerfed by next season.

As someone who owns both a normal and an Adept version, let me make this clear:

This version of the gun not being an Adept doesn't mean it's no monster. It's still a monster. Just minus 10 range. Regardless, if you get range barrel, range mag, Rangefinder or Keep Away with Target Lock or Kill Clip, you have something to contest against Adept apes.

Given I was stuck with this one before an Adept one for a *while*, I would know.

Well uh, as of time of writing, this is by far the best smg in the game. thing is absolutely fucking cracked, adept rolls capping out at like 25 meter ranges for literally 0.

Very consistent weapon. Feels very crisp in PVE and PVP. Got a very similar feel to borrowed time and multimak. Worth grinding for over the season :)

So far it's great, don't sleep on target lock it drops kill by a bullet. Threading roll is fun for pve and feels better than the niomuna smg.

On PvE there is no better option for Strand SMG than The Immortal (and thats because we only have two options). Is it good? Yeah its better than Synchronic Roulette, but for some reason i cant shake the feeling that the weapon has a bad TTK and i have to keep constant reloading. Keep in mind that my review comes from the fact that I dislike Aggressive Frames on PvE, and the fact that you want this weapon just because of "Hatchling" i believe there are better weapons for this perk than an Aggressive Frame.

On PvP the weapon is amazing! You like Ikelos on PvP? Congratulations! This is Ikelos but Kinetic slot with better stats and better perks organization. Ikelos can't have Rangefinder and a damage perk together? The Immortal can - Rangefinder was moved to the third column instead of fourth like Ikelos. I don't wanna farm but I want a good Kinetic slot SMG. Good for you, anything you get on this SMG is good for PvP - except Hatchling and Demolitionist. Anything else is fair game!

Good luck to everyone on your farming!

one of the best options out there for both PVE and PVP, it dominates the crucible, IB, and Trials (as of writing this) with rolls like rangefinder and target lock, while in PVE you can get Threat Detector and Demo/Hatchling. A really good SMG worth picking up, even if you're a PVE only player.

Stop rating weapons 2 stars for PVE when you haven't tried them. This is currently the best strand smg for PVE in the game.
