If you don't have a literally perfect IKELOS sniper rifle, this is the best sniper rifle in the game for PvE hands down. If you do have one, this still presents a strong argument.

Focused fire is currently a 20% damage buff on a timer that does not go away when you reload and refreshes upon dealing half the mag in damage. Father's Sins maxes out at 7 in the mag, so after 4 shots you get a 20% damage buff until you run out of ammo or miss too many shots to refresh the perk. With triple tap, it's able to shoot one less round than the IKELOS sniper, so in terms of one mag total damage the IKELOS sniper has this beat; however, high impact reserves starts as a smaller damage buff than focused fire before ramping up to surpass it, so in terms of DPS from my testing the IKELOS managed 41,065 to this gun's 40,890. Less than 200 damage difference.

Where this thing pulls ahead is two mag damage. Thanks to the slight stat bumps at level 20, a fully leveled Father's Sins with a reload speed frame will reload a few hundredths of a second faster than a perfect IKELOS sniper with a reload masterwork, and for the second mag focused fire will be active for all 10 shots you get; combining those two factors, the father's sins' 2 mag dps holds strong at 32,640 compared to the IKELOS god roll's 32,269.

And this is comparing it to a 5/5 roll on a gun that is now very difficult to acquire. If you don't currently have an IKELOS sniper with all of: tac mag, fourth times, high impact reserves, and a reload speed masterwork, the IKELOS you have is probably worse than the best Father's Sins you can craft.

Additionally, the enhanced perks provide, if not increased damage, increased ease of use. Enhanced triple tap doesn't grant any more shots than regular triple tap does, but it does allow you to take upwards of a second to line up each shot and still proc. Enhanced focused fire doesn't change the damage buff, but it makes the timer noticeably longer, so if you miss your shots you can more easily keep the perk up. The IKELOS sniper rifle lacks both of these ease of use considerations.

As far as PvP goes, it's a 35 zoom sniper with an incredibly open sight picture. Snapshot shares a column with a lot of the good consistency perks for sniper rifles, but no distractions and under pressure in the third column are nothing to sneeze at and if you spec into handling you may find that using this gun without snapshot in the crucible feels perfectly fine, as many 140s without snapshot do. The reticle itself I am not the biggest fan of personally, but it's not the worst in the world and your mileage may vary. 140s have had a rough time of it in the crucible lately, but you can still absolutely click on heads and get kills with them, so if they're your jam give this a try.

Thoughtless with enhanced overflow/FF has 16 in the mag. FF procs on the first 2 shots. Food for thought.

Grabbed a Thoughtless I had laying around to damage test and do some math on to check this out, and it's certainly worth considering/grabbing a roll because it's fun and things could get buffed, but as-is I do think the 140s edge it out just because of how snipers are used for damage in the current meta. It obviously has a higher total damage just by virtue of being a harder hitting archetype shooting slightly more bullets, but a 90RPM takes 10.67 seconds to fire those 16 shots while a 140RPM godroll IKELOS sniper (which can fire 11 without reloading if you're landing all your crits) fires its full mag in just 4.7. This all works out to a 36,080 DPS for the Thoughtless, but that number requires you to spend almost eleven seconds shooting at a boss and landing every crit with a special weapon rather than your heavy. The 140s can dump two full magazines of fairly close to the same number of shots in about the same amount of time, so using the 140s leaves you more time to DPS with heavy weapons (or leaves you more room to DPS with the snipers once you run out of the heavy you were using first). So if you're fighting a boss that is both beefy enough to stand up to your heavy and has a long enough damage window that you can spend the amount of time required to deal both heavy and special weapon damage to it (IE, something like Calus used to be but actually not a pushover), Thoughtless would be the play, but for most boss situations the 140s should compliment heavy weapon DPS a bit better.

Wouldn’t 7 in the mag be worse for Focused Fire since 6 in the mag gets you to the bonus damage rounds in one less shot? Or does the extra damage of having an extra shot out-DPS it

7 in mag is a triple tap breakpoint. it’s not just about proccing focused fury early

After some testing, 7 in the mag is better.

My results are against Riven as she is a stationary target with a large crit spot making it easy to land consecutive shots. I used 2 magazines worth of shots. 6 in the mag got 144,849 as 7 in the mag got about 180,000.

Really fun sniper to use, i dont personally like the reticle same goes with the succession, but even besides that, its so fun and feels really good. My roll has no distraction + snapshot, i wouldve wanted under pressure instead personally but regardless so fun to use.

Definitely worth the effort to get this. The wide field of view makes it one of the best snipers to start learning on.

This gun is in an interesting position. 140 snipers have had their time in the sun and are really only good in PVE burst DPS scenarios, being outclassed in most other places.
PVP-wise, you really don't get many 35 zoom snipers. It doesn't get the wombo combo of Opening Shot + Snapshot that Twilight Oath gets, but it CAN get enhanced perks. Ideally, you're aiming for No Distractions/Under Pressure + Snapshot (or maybe Opening Shot if you're running Ophidians or something). Pretty good for PVP if you are insane at sniping, but if you're trying out sniping, you're better off getting a Frozen Orbit or another non-rapid fire sniper.
PVE-wise, kinda bad? I can really only see Triple Tap + Focused Fury. Lead from Gold and Field Prep are also good, but Focused Fury makes you really want to keep hitting as many shots as you can to proc a 20% damage buff, which is the same as Firing Line. I would probably run this over a Supremacy, but probably not over a Distant Tumulus or Praedyth's Revenge.

Don't sleep on under pressure/opening shot in PVP. You're going to want to pair it with fluted barrel and a handling masterwork. Top tier pvp weapon that people are missing out on right now.

great sniper rifle. I am a fan of 140's, idk why I just seem to do better with them and this low zoom one feels great. Also has the succession reticle which I am a huge fan of. Can't really complain just go for a SS/ under pressure or SS/ opening shot with fluted and a handling masterwork both will serve you nicely. for pve, probably triple tap and focused fire or field prep too.

Great perk combinations, I personally don't like low zoom snipers but they are just objectively better when you compare the two. The reticle is interesting but not my favorite. Overall seems like a good introduction to sniping for most people. if it was a 50 zoom I'd be all over it but I just doesn't feel right to me. Objectively good sniper, Subjectively not one of my top 10s

I have made the god roll and after almost 200 kills on it I just don't think it's a good sniper. The sight is odd. The aiming movement feels so restricted compared to my Eye of Sol Snapshot, Opening Shot. For clarification I have the Accurized, Fluted, Enhanced Under Pressure, Opening Shot. With a Range MW. PVE might be viable but PVP there are far better models out there. And that kills me considering how long it took to grind this and to level it up to lv22 or so in Suro Chi... It doesn't 1 tap via body either due to it's model. Eye of Sol just felt SO smooth and perfect going back to and I have almost 800 kills on it and its far superior. We need another Supremacy sniper, that was one of my favorite snipers. Bring it back =/ All in all I don't think Father's Sins is worth it for hardcore PVP stuff. There is a reason why most people aren't using it. It can't compete with the Adored or Eye of Sol sadly...

Also Accurized Rounds is a MUST for PVP for that stickyness. I was shocked too that I had to go back and switch to it over Light Mag or something fyi.

im sorry sir, what?

For pvp youve got opening shot or snapshot (its got 83 handling with fluted, so you dont need snapshot imo), as well as under pressure in the first, which is good after that ammo nerf.

For pve, its got triple tap, as well as focused fury.

PLUS, ALL OF THESE PERKS CAN BE ENHANCED AND THE WEAPON IS CRAFTABLE.
