ESI: What was that?

MURIB: We got hit. Engine 7 is down.

SUNDARESH: We can't take another one of those! This is a colony ship!

ESI: Hard aport. Put Hyperion between us and that—

MURIB: Sir, the r—

ESI: And flood the EM spectrum with—

MURIB: CHIOMA! The round—the one that hit us—it's moving!

ESI: What?

SYSTEM WARNING//STRUCTURAL IMPACT

SUNDARESH: He's right. I'm reading… arms and legs? It's attacking engine 6.

SANCHEZ: I'll scramble a squad of Cloud Walkers. They can suit up and—

MURIB: The maneuvers I'm pulling'll fling them into space, even with mag boots.

TSE: Bringing point-defense cannons about.

ESI: It's only three meters across. Sure you can hit that without peeling us open?

SYSTEM WARNING//STRUCTURAL IMPACT

TSE: Kinda have to, Cap'n. Firing.

MURIB: Buset! That thing just took a fifteen-millimeter burst to the chest!

ESI: Again.

TSE: Firing. It's clear!

MURIB: Mostly. Looks like it left a… is that a spear through our bulkhead?

SUNDARESH: Not sure. It's some kind of exotic matter, spitting all my sensor pings back at me, amplified, like a…

ESI: We can figure it out later, dear. Sanchez, how's the ECM?

SANCHEZ: Not great. Whatever they're using to coordinate, it's not electromagnetic. Getting something weird, though.

MURIB: Weirder than the three-meter hitchhiker knocking on the hull?

SANCHEZ: Maybe. You remember those Vex signals you discovered?

SUNDARESH: On occasion, Carlo.

SANCHEZ: There's a big one! Recurring. Coming from the outer system. Think it's a distress signal.

ESI: Ignore it and get me—

SUNDARESH: No! Bring us back around into the moon's shadow!

ESI: Maya!

SUNDARESH: We need to break line of sight. I can feed that Vex signal into that thing skewering us—use it like an amplifier. It might trick these attackers into thinking we're a Vex ship.

MURIB: It's a tightbeam transmission. We'll have to ride it back to the source to keep that up. You sure you want to meet whatever makes a Vex cry for help?

ESI: Enemy of my enemy, Arief. We might just find a safe port in this storm.

Disabled day one for letting you melee attacks do Rocket Launcher damage per hit. There, that's the review.

Fellow crayon eaters, Rejoice ! For our prayers have finally been heard, and Winterbite is back to even more disgusting levels of infinite/free/unrelenting DPS tomfoolery.
You might say "B-but... I didn't see any buff to Winterbite?" Aaaand you'd be right, despite the fact that all glaives in general got some nice buffs here and there entering S23, but what if I told you they nuked Synthos to offer us something way WAY spicier?

Introducing Wormgod Caress. That's right, the original "swap-to-one-hammer-raid-bosses"is now BACK and it wants revenge. It will now provide a stacking buff to your melee, glaive AND overall weapon damage that will keep going up and will increase/refresh after every kill... But what sells the cake for us average glaive enjoyers is that the buff doesn't just go away after 5 pathetic seconds, oh no no no.... It literally just loses a level after a few seconds of not skewering everything that dares commit the mistake of getting too close to your powerhouse of a guardian. Total buff can last a whole 30 seconds and let me tell you, it's already worth it with just one stack of it.

So wait wait wait... this isn't a wormgod caress review, r-right? So uhm AKCHUALLY i needed to explain why wormgod changes the whole spikey meta for my review of a year old exotic to have any purpose okay?

Back to our favorite triple ice-skewer of frozen Poseidon goodness. See, this glaive already does more damage than a regular, useless, disgusting legendary glaive. And that's without any heavy ammo, the perk "Weighted Edge" will allow you to crank the volume even higher if you ever lay hands on those sweet sweet purple boxes. With all that and our newly renewed friendhsip with wormgod, you can TRIPLE the damage of that bad boy, effectively turning it from a meh glaive to a midwest cop who hasn't had his coffee and donuts for a massive 15 minutes (in short : it SLAPS). Pair it with banner of war of course, it goes without saying. The banner of war damage increase to glaive stacks with wormgods. +25% x +200% = STONKS.

But mere words cannot express how this combination TRIVIALIZES anything in the game, granted you might encounter some difficulties in master raids and GMs, but if you bring a glaive to a King's Fall boss CP that's on you buddy. Seriously, just try this and Winterbite will come to be your favorite exotic and bring you some joy during this LONG AHH season... And I insist : Winterbite is the real dealbreaker here, try this with any other glaive and you will be missing the juicy damage of Winterbite in no time. Even a crafted glaive with close to melee hits more than 2 times less that our frosty boi : the deal's all clear for me personally.

Oh, one more thing while i'm at it : the projectile will be your best friend to entirely freeze or clear rooms of trash ads and even minibosses. See something that defies you and stays out of your short reach? Throw em some ice cubes and watch them as they regret ever waking up this morning. Plus you can chill behind your newly and improved shield (now with extra free regen!) while they get reverse-cooked to a crisp -157 degrees Celsius.

EVEN IF SOMEHOW wormgod caress are deemed too juicy by Bungo and they nerf some of the damage, it goes without saying that even a mere 100% increase will make most activities a joke, so have fun while you're at it and hope that Winterbite ever forgives you for the last time you threw it with disdain and disgust into the dark corners of your dirty Vault. (Time heals wounds, skewered ads will not)

tl;dr : Friendship ended with Synthoceps, Wormgod Caress + Winterbite are my new best friends.

gives you and infinite ammo heavy weapon with limited but instant freeze making it a Anti-Champ machine.
This thing is crazy strong but can't carry a build by itself since it is a glaive requiring you to get at close range for optimal damage which isn't always possible in more challenging content without some sort of damage resist. Only real tip is to always keep 1 ammo in the exotic so that the melees stay powerful.

its a heavy weapon so its obviously not bad in PvP but there are better legendary options

i bloody love this thing, it really is the BFG of glaives and somewhat functionality as well kinda like the Acrius being the BFG of shotguns

i do hope it can get a little bit of a buff like either increased ammo reserves or increased projectile damage but eh maybe we'll wait and see what the catalyst might have in store for the wepaon

Let's face it, everyone was skeptical about a new exotic glaive after the three we got at Witch Queen. Turns out, this thing was so insane at damage without ammo consumption it got disabled entirely lmao

The ammo got it disabled, if multiple players fired it it would do millions of damage.

Actually kind of slaps with Prismatic, Facet of Dominance and the right class item with Necrotic/Syntho on Warlock.

Honestly probably my new favorite exotic. It isn't groundbreakingly meta or anything but it feels pretty good, especially with a stasis shatter build. (Behemoth is my favorite subclass so this fits in perfectly)
Was playing with a friend in a 1v1 and the blast size kept catching both of us off guard. Also with 3 reserve mods you can get up to 3 in the mag and 14 in reserves so there's that. Boot loader mods fill the mag up really quickly which is handy since the default reload speed is quite slow.
In PvP you could definitely use something better, but it's still incredibly fun.

They killed it, they fucking killed it without any remorse, this and pretty much any other glaive in the game. Glaives did alright damage, but Synthoceps brought it to immeasurable heights and actually gave melee builds with glaives time in the limelight for a short while, doing pretty serious melee damage and even melting bosses due to a bug with close to melee. The bug was patched, which was alright in itself as it was a glitch, but someone at Bungie thought "Hey, let's fuck over Synthoceps for good measure while we're at it", and so they did, dropping that amazing 200% damage bonus to 50% with glaives. On top of that, they also continued to spit in our faces with Triton Vice, which only gives 30% bonus damage and makes your projectiles explode enemies.

Winterbite takes up an exotic slot AND a heavy slot, and all it can give back is ad clear and some champion capabilities with awful reserves that can easily be outclassed by a legendary primary weapon. A Synthoceps backpedal is coming, though, in usual Bungie methods, it's coming next season for stupid reasons, leaving this weapon in the dirt for the time being. At least Synthos and Banner can somewhat restore it, but for now, this weapon has no place in most inventories until Bungie stops being stupid and hating melee builds.
