Tarnished Mettle
Survival is the better part of valor.
Vrisk had been lying under his crewmate's corpse for the better part of an hour. His body ached from lack of Ether, but he dared not pull from his rebreather for fear of discovery.
Besides, if he survived, there would be enough to sate his hunger a dozen times over.
He and Krilix had been calibrating the landing struts on the crew's Ketch when the ambush hit. A long-range scout rifle slug punched through Krilix in the opening salvo, ripping a fist-sized hole in his chest. He fell on top of Vrisk in a heap of gore as a barrage of gunfire rained down on their position.
Vrisk could have shrugged off the Wretch's body and seized his Arc Spear to retaliate. Instead, he simply lay beneath his dying crewmate and let the battle play out.
After the shooting stopped, Vrisk listened to their assailants ransack the ship. A mix of guttural Cabal barks and familiar Eliksni chatter marked them as a competing crew, eager to claim the bounty set forth by the reawakened Shipstealer.
But Vrisk knew what their attackers did not: the relic they sought was not on the Ketch, or even on this planet. It was hidden in a safehouse deep within the asteroid belt beyond Mars. Once Vrisk found the courage to emerge from his hiding place, he would take the relic to Eramiskel himself and claim the reward for his own.
But there was time for that. For now, the Dreg let the weight and warmth of his dead companion press him into a peaceful slumber, where he dreamed of better days to come.
Being a lightweight scout with access to anti-barrier perks this season, this weapon is sure to see use in endgame PvE content as a dependable primary with some arc elemental synergy. If you used Vouchsafe in previous seasons, think of this as the Arc version of that. Fourth Time's The Charm and Demolitionist both appear in the left column, and you can pair those with old reliable favourites like Explosive Payload, Dragonfly, and Multikill Clip in the right column. I'd make sure I paired Rapid Hit with Multikill Clip, but other than that any combination of the other four perks will yield an effective weapon. Dragonfly especially is nice since killing one enemy with the elemental explosion was enough to get you Amplified.
Where this gun gets very interesting is the new perk Voltshot. Jolt can be a really powerful debuff in PvE, and it synergizes well with the fifth column seasonal artifact mod Trace Evidence. This will help you spawn Ionic Traces on demand, greatly improving your ability to recharge your abilities. Since proccing Voltshot requires a reload after defeating a target, stay away from Fourth Time's The Charm unless you're specifically not crafting a gun with Voltshot. Instead go with Rapid Hit; at base, five stacks of Rapid Hit will max your reload speed while boosting this weapon's rather poor stability at the same time. If you want a gun to just maximize your ability recharge, Demolitionist is a good option here too, but I'd make sure I built heavily into reload speed elsewhere if you go this route. To round out my gun, I like Arrowhead Brake and Flared Magwell with a Reload Masterwork (since I'm planning on reloading a lot to proc Voltshot as much as I can), but these are very much personal preference choices.
Overall, I like how snappy the gun feels with its fairly high base handling. The model is pretty chunky when not ADS, but I do like that the scope feels rather unobtrusive when ADS. It also kicks quite a bit with a pretty rough base recoil direction and bounce intensity, so you might have to take the edge off of that with Arrowhead Brake. If crafted right, I think this gun might see strong use this season when GMs open. Recommend adding it to your arsenal before then.
I use exactly the same configuration than yours, I also crafted another version of it with 4th charm and explosive payload, like you said, arc version of Vouchsafe for GM content.
Demo and voltshot/ep will be the best option
