Tarnished Mettle

Survival is the better part of valor.

Vrisk had been lying under his crewmate's corpse for the better part of an hour. His body ached from lack of Ether, but he dared not pull from his rebreather for fear of discovery.

Besides, if he survived, there would be enough to sate his hunger a dozen times over.

He and Krilix had been calibrating the landing struts on the crew's Ketch when the ambush hit. A long-range scout rifle slug punched through Krilix in the opening salvo, ripping a fist-sized hole in his chest. He fell on top of Vrisk in a heap of gore as a barrage of gunfire rained down on their position.

Vrisk could have shrugged off the Wretch's body and seized his Arc Spear to retaliate. Instead, he simply lay beneath his dying crewmate and let the battle play out.

After the shooting stopped, Vrisk listened to their assailants ransack the ship. A mix of guttural Cabal barks and familiar Eliksni chatter marked them as a competing crew, eager to claim the bounty set forth by the reawakened Shipstealer.

But Vrisk knew what their attackers did not: the relic they sought was not on the Ketch, or even on this planet. It was hidden in a safehouse deep within the asteroid belt beyond Mars. Once Vrisk found the courage to emerge from his hiding place, he would take the relic to Eramiskel himself and claim the reward for his own.

But there was time for that. For now, the Dreg let the weight and warmth of his dead companion press him into a peaceful slumber, where he dreamed of better days to come.

My ideal roll once I can craft: Arrowhead Brake + Flared Magwell + Rapid Hit + Voltshot + Reload MW

Being a lightweight scout with access to anti-barrier perks this season, this weapon is sure to see use in endgame PvE content as a dependable primary with some arc elemental synergy. If you used Vouchsafe in previous seasons, think of this as the Arc version of that. Fourth Time's The Charm and Demolitionist both appear in the left column, and you can pair those with old reliable favourites like Explosive Payload, Dragonfly, and Multikill Clip in the right column. I'd make sure I paired Rapid Hit with Multikill Clip, but other than that any combination of the other four perks will yield an effective weapon. Dragonfly especially is nice since killing one enemy with the elemental explosion was enough to get you Amplified.

Where this gun gets very interesting is the new perk Voltshot. Jolt can be a really powerful debuff in PvE, and it synergizes well with the fifth column seasonal artifact mod Trace Evidence. This will help you spawn Ionic Traces on demand, greatly improving your ability to recharge your abilities. Since proccing Voltshot requires a reload after defeating a target, stay away from Fourth Time's The Charm unless you're specifically not crafting a gun with Voltshot. Instead go with Rapid Hit; at base, five stacks of Rapid Hit will max your reload speed while boosting this weapon's rather poor stability at the same time. If you want a gun to just maximize your ability recharge, Demolitionist is a good option here too, but I'd make sure I built heavily into reload speed elsewhere if you go this route. To round out my gun, I like Arrowhead Brake and Flared Magwell with a Reload Masterwork (since I'm planning on reloading a lot to proc Voltshot as much as I can), but these are very much personal preference choices.

Overall, I like how snappy the gun feels with its fairly high base handling. The model is pretty chunky when not ADS, but I do like that the scope feels rather unobtrusive when ADS. It also kicks quite a bit with a pretty rough base recoil direction and bounce intensity, so you might have to take the edge off of that with Arrowhead Brake. If crafted right, I think this gun might see strong use this season when GMs open. Recommend adding it to your arsenal before then.

Absolutely spot on analysis. Your review is what everyone needs to think about when crafting it. I suggest your volt shot roll for 1 uniquely powerful and Arrowhead, Accurized, Fourth Time (Demo for grenade builds), and Explosive for a 2nd Highest DPS craft.

Exactly my point as well. A lot of people prefer demolitionist but honestly, the best is to pair this gun with an arc class where you will be generating ionic traces a lot, even without demo, my grenade is always up. So indeed, voltshot is what makes this weapons special and to get the most benefit of it, reload speed is the way to go.

I use exactly the same configuration than yours, I also crafted another version of it with 4th charm and explosive payload, like you said, arc version of Vouchsafe for GM content.

Rapid hit is wasting your column 1 perk when there are other perks like Demolitionist which don't show up in column 1 often. With arrowhead brake there isn't much recoil sway, and with it being a 200rpm scout it already reloads fast. Voltshot pairs very well with Demo for lower-mid level content, even for GMs it is a solid pick.

Demo and voltshot/ep will be the best option

Only if your build is Discipline based. Most Arc 3.0 builds are melee based, especially on Hunter or Titan. Your roll is powerful and great especially on a 100 discipline Warlock. Fourth Time+Explosive or Demo+ Explosive are great DPS options. But Flared Magwell, Rapid Hit, plus Voltshot with a Reload MW will proc add clearing voltshot thunderstorms constantly and quickly producing Amplified and even Ionic Traces if built around. This weapon has 3 or 4 outstanding 1st and 2nd Column combos.

The 200 RPM scouts have always been pretty nice for PvE. Nightwatch and Vouchsafe remained to be some of the best scouts in the game due to their Rapid Hit/Overflow and Explosive Payload combination, making them really good for anti-barriers for nightfalls. This scout is no different, but it's Arc.

Starting with perk slot 1, you have a good set of PvE perks. There's Rapid Hit, Demo, Shoot to Loot, Fourth Times the Charm, and worst case scenario Steady Hands. Moving Target is more for PvP but could help in PvE if you need the extra AA to land some shots.

For perk slot 2. Honestly, just take your pick, they're all good. Eye of Storm is the worst you're going to get for PvE and everything else is amazing. Shoot to Loot + Explosive Payload is good for the extra ammo, Demo + Voltshot for an add clearing monster, and can never go wrong with Dragonfly, Multikill Clip, or Swashbuckler. Swash definitely leans into the Arc 3.0 philosophy of just punch stuff, so it works out if you run a Font of Might build with it as well.

The only bad thing I'd have to say about this weapon is it's recoil direction. 52 is a awkward number for it. The only way to get a nice and steady vertical is with Arrowhead Break and Counterbalance mod.

My personal roll has been Polygonal, Steady Rounds, Demo, and Voltshot and within 2 days of the season I'm already pushing almost 5k kills with it. I'm not much of a scout rifle fan but, this is a really good gun.

I agree with the recoil direction. This thing jumps like a kangaroo. Sadly it has lackluster range but you almost need to have Arrowhead and Counterbalance to keep it from hopping after every shot. Still a fantastic Scout and I'll be using it in any GM with Arc burns this season.

This scout seem like it's compensating for something with that model size, it covers like half the screen. Feels pretty good though and can roll with the new arc perk Voltshot.

Really nice arc scout, FTTC/Rapid Hit + Voltshot / EP feel super good to use. Voltshot is especially satisfying. That being said, the weapon model looks absolutely awful in my opinion and takes up half the screen for some reason, which kinda ruins it for me.

Looks to me like an arc Vouchsafe. Fantastic perk pool (also a rare 3rd column demo weapon), and it's part of arguably the best PvE scout archetype, with practically the same DPS as rapid fires (~10% above high impacts and precisions), but with the added bonus of having high base handling and increasing mobility + forward move speed, though that extra is less valuable due to Amplified. I'm sure rapid hit/demo + explosive payload will be a staple for arc setups in high level content.

Demolitionist Voltshot is absurdly strong on this weapon.
Voltshot is a total game changer damage perk (as it gives bursts of 4x damage to targets in a Trinity Ghoul AOE)
Demolitionist pairs perfectly with every good build in the game but being able to get half a grenade off of a voltshot proc is *chef's kiss*
Outside of Touch of Malice this is THE weapon of the season and almost without question the best legendary PvE Scout in Destiny at current

I'm not understanding such a low score with this gun, it is an adequate PvP once the meta gets shifted along with balancing for off meta versatility, and an ABSOLUTE monster in PvE, specifically Storm Warlock w Crown of Tempest. Please try this build if you read it.

Please please please either get Arrowhead Break and Counterbalance, or anything to help out the handling in first column with FULL AUTO. Full Auto makes this weapon really shine, especially paired with Rapid Hit and Voltshot. Stupid amount of wells for you and team if you build it, very small cooldowns on abilities (I'm talking 3 seconds each if built right), Ionic Trace spam, massive orb generation, 3x longer super and the option of single target damage with Arc weapons, or serious add clear. I am surprised they launched this build in the game, even if they did tease Crown of Tempest being great. The synergy is borderline broken with this and Font of Might eith Stormchsser. It is better than Doom of Chelchis point blank. In matcmade Nightfalls I will usually have almost double the kills of my team combined, and 4x orbs generated w the max being 45 in one run without trying.

PvP it has Explosive Payload and is a Lightweight. It will snipe out most long range people to forcing them to be accurate.

Insanely fun PVE gun, using a 4Time/Voltshot rn. Combined with my Arc class set up to be entirely focused on Jolting and Ionic Traces, I clean out hordes quite nicely. Even with Full Auto, I'm finding staying on target to be pretty easy. Definitely my favorite out of this season's guns!

Finally, the energy scout trifecta is complete. This is basically arc Staccato, replacing triple tap with fourth time's, retaining explosive payload and dragonfly, and then utilizing arc's version of incandescent: voltshot. A fine addition to my collection.

Explosive Payload/Rapid Hit/Accurized/Extended Barrel

I'm sure there COULD BE a better perk set but as a 200 RPM Scout this thing SHREDS ads regardless. Its unfortunate there's not a huge benefit (that I'm currently aware of) for using any arc weapon that isn't a special weapon (ala Spark Of Beacons gatekeeping the shit out of that)

But I'm sure much smarter people than me will figure out a way to abuse this new scout. For now its still definitely a 5/5 for me based on the RPM alone.

PVP? It seems pretty alright. Nothing crazy.

Extended barrel is pointless on scouts as they are already putting out optimal damage at 70m+ range, plus it tanks your handling which makes the gun feel worse. You want arrowhead break to make the recoil much more bearable... the extra range from extended barrel or hammerforged will help in few to none instances.

We also already have a few scouts with EP, voltshot is what makes this stand out from the rest. Paired with Demolitionist which we don't see often for scouts, this thing is a monster.

The seasonal mod weakening distant combatants combined with voltshot thunderstorms while amplifying you and creating ionic traces is the abuse set up you might be missing. Reload MW+Flared Mag+Rapid Hit+Voltshot with the incredibly expensive 7 point seasonal mod and the aspect for ionic traces makes the OP Arc based build. Don't forget to put the seasonal scout aim assist mod on the helmet and the Anti-Barrier Mod on the arms and you now have a synergistic Thundergod set up to maximize this great weapon.

Again, you really don't need rapid hit when you can top out at 78 reload speed, 80 with a level 20 crafted gun. Passing up on Demo for a tiny bit of reload speed and stability is not worth it, it feels amazing with 82 recoil direction using Arrowhead brake with flared magwell and a reload mw.

This is the only weapon that can currently roll with Demo and Voltshot and is amazing for all types of content, trash mobs all the way to GMs. The only downside is that the reload utility from Demo does not proc voltshot, however hunter dodge reloading does for some reason. It is a small price for how great Demo pairs with Arc builds, imo you can't be a thundergod if you are passing up Demo on this beast.

I absolutely love this scout for pve! My roll is demolishionist and volt shot with appended mag and a reload masterwork. It has such good ad killing capabilites and has really good synergy with some new arc 3.0 ability builds. I would defiently recommend pairing demo with it for grenade energy but rapid hit is good to go with volt shot aswell. So excited to craft this!

Absolutely insane PvE weapon with voltshot and demolitionist. I am not a huge fan of scouts, to the point of not using them at all. They feel terrible and don't hit hard enough for their fire rate, in my opinion, but this one? This one has a good fire rate, decent reload, and hits like a truck. I even used a demolitionist/explosive payload one for a while that felt amazing, but that voltshot synergy is just too good to pass up. It does pretty solidly in PvP as well. The aim assist is quite high so it's very sticky. Explosive payload is always good for snagging peakers on corners.

Fourth times the charm+ Volt Shot is a mistake. If you keep adding 2 rounds to the magazine you won't proc Voltshot. You have to reload after a kill to volt shot. Rapid Hit+ Voltshot will ensure you reload superfast to proc volt shot after a kill. Fourth+Time's + Explosive Payload is your high DPS roll. Rapid Hit+Volt Shot is your powerful Arc 3.0 build unique to this scout.

This weapon CLAPS with a specific build on hunter. Voltshot+Demo with the new lucky raspberry, and you'll be the god of arcbolts. Throw on spark of ions and spark of jolt, and then we're getting somewhere. Use combination blow with flow state and lethal current, and finish off the build with spark of instinct and spark of magnitude, and you'll be generating orbs, ionic traces, and grenades like nobody's business. 10/10, would reccomend.

For PvP, Rapid Hit and Explosive Payload is the sauce it's got
