As per the latest TWAB, just like Adept Root of Nightmares weapons, Nightfall weapons can get their perks enhanced when The Final Shape launches. This means that The Slammer can have enhanced Eager Edge.

Knowing that, the launch of The Final Shape will mean the end of the reign of glory of Half-Truths and The Other Half. The Slammer can be Adept, has access to Cold Steel (can stun two types of champions), and enables you to skate further with a well- or shatterskate because it's a Vortex Frame. It also has access to something like Relentless Strikes + Bait and Switch for a more DPS-oriented option, but honestly, this will be a speedrun tool and not a DPS tool.
Also, for whatever it's worth, it also made Zephyr obsolete. Again, it's an Adept weapon, can run Relentless Strikes + Cold Steel like Zephyr too... but it's also available more than once a year lol

Anyway, pour one out for Half-Truths and The Other Half

Something about Zephyr felt awful, too. I swear the combos kept stopping dead in their tracks. Light>light>light, or light>heavy, didn't matter. No other adaptive hiccuped like that for me.

Truth is this weapon will only be used for eager edge everyone saying bait and switch is lying to themselves swords will never be a dps meta outside of a few specific bosses that don't float and even then most of those bosses have better DPS strategies if you want to use a sword against a boss just learn how to use lament. (down vote me if you want but you know what I am saying is true other than one specific set up with surrounded + bequest there has not been a significant use for swords outside of movement)

TLDR: get your drippy adept eager edge sword for movement and anti-champion but a DPS roll will be collecting dust in your vault for a long time

I mentioned Lament because its easy to use and most people have it, but yeah gold tusk in a really long DPS phase will do around 200k more damage than lament with Lament doing 5.2m~ and Gold Tusk doing 5.4m~ other than the bequest set up I mentioned I would love to know what other magical swords are leaving Lament in the dust?

Outside of Bequest w/ Surrounded for Crota or a sword locked to Hunters, Lament essentially does the same. It does far more than The Slammer and every other Vortex Frame, at least (Even though the Slammer is a cool swiss army knife of a sword).

This Sword is a menace for Other Half and Half-Truths.

Eager Edge is the way for 3rd column, being a vortex frame can push you even further than the other 2 swords with the same perk, and it's not enhanced (yet).

In 4th column, for me, is all the way Cold Steel, Bait and Switch is okay but, honestly, there are other swords with perks (and frames) that are stronger for sword dps like Surrounded and Whirlwind Blade (30% DMG like BnS but you can proc it just doing damage, better than a time limited buff).
Better use of Cold Steel for stun Overload and Unstoppable Champions and good Damage with Ad-clear (Cold Steel actually can do AoE Damage).

Some players noted that sometimes well/shatterskating consume ammo, it's just because the heavy attack is more shorter than the other two swords, so you need to do the skate with faster timing.

YOU NEED TO FARM THIS WEAPON.

Thank you for the tip about ammo when skating, that did the trick! Below is the key combo that worked for me:

1.) Switch to the sword
2.) Wait 600 ms
3.) Heavy attack with the sword
4.) Wait 50 ms **
5.) Press the jump key
6.) Wait 0 ms
7.) Press the air move (ie: Shatterdive) key

** I had to reduce the wait time at step 4 to stop consuming ammo, down from 100 ms with other swords. You might get away with pressing heavy attack + jump + Shatterdive all at once.

Yeah, I press all of the 3 commands all at once and work well, honestly only one time in hundrends of attemps i consumed ammo, it's more complicated than the other 2 swords tho but for me is worth the risk, with TFS can be enchanted so even worth it.

This weapon are without a doubt a top contender when it comes to a utility sword.
Having access to perks like Eagers + Coldsteel / Bait'n switch automatically makes it better than Half-Truths and The Other Half.
Keep in mind this sword will not be greatest for DPS and shouldn't be considered one either... This sword is purely utility.
3 Rolls I would farm for is:
1) Eagers + Cold steel
2) Eagers + Bait'n Switch
3) Chain + Cold steel.
Before people start roasting me for even suggesting Bait'n switch on a non-DPS sword keep in mind having access to a free 30% damage buff is never a bad option even if it's not for DPS it simply just adds more forgiveness to the weapon and means it can still be used for damage even though it's far from the best option hence making it a fantastic utility weapon.

As for the Chain + Cold steel it seems like the explosion from the chain reaction also applies slow due to cold steel, so while it may not be super practical is just a fun little reaction that some might find useful ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also shame on you Bungie for not allowing us to use our Falling Guillotine ornament (Riptide) on this sword.
Especially when you allowed us to use the ornament for Spare rations on the Targeted Redaction.

So all I can say is best of luck fellow Guardians.
Hopefully you'll get the perfect roll you're looking for o7

Amazing weapon, definitely worth chasing a god roll for. If you don't Raid and don't have Bequest, this is the next best thing with Relentless Strikes and Bait N Switch. And of course if you like speed skating it can roll with Eager Edge as well. For bosses that will require Swords and Shotguns, this is an excellent option.

Insane speed, especially after it gets enhanced perks in the final shape. Honestly, b&s is overrated, the damage is lacking compared to other swords (the other half and Bequest with no damage perk do more total dmg and DPS than Slammer with b&s active). Best sword in the game though, some insane utility, and skates are really quick with it already.

To anybody who said that this sword would never be meta, if your review was before Final Shape, you're probably kicking yourselves now. Falling Guillotine will probably be the go-to for most, due to the double damage perks (Frenzy/Vorpal + BnS/Surrounded, amirite?), but this sword will still give you supreme utility. You might find yourself with quite a few rolls of this sword, since it has quite a few different uses.

In the third column, we have some rather tasty options. Other Half rolling in its grave over this thing getting Eager Edge. For damage, there's the tried and true Relentless Strikes. For ad clear, there's Chain Reaction, which despite the small nerf it received at the beginning of Season 24, is still plenty viable. Attrition Orbs can also make this sword a potent orb-generating machine, for those of you who wanna have high super up-time.

In the fourth column is a bit barren, but there's definitely some value: Cold Steel is a sword's Chill Clip, allowing it to stun two different champion types at record speed... if getting close to them was entirely viable, your mileage using it in GMs may vary. Still a plenty good perk for mopping up ads AND dealing good damage. Though, the question here is whether Cold Steel's constant freeze proc can keep up with the 30% damage buff provided by Bait-and-Switch.

As of writing this (week of 7/23/2024), the weekly Nightfall featuring this sword is Liminality. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to farm for this weapon like I have. This strike is BRUTAL. That said, I can definitely recommend anybody who needs a good sword shouldn't pass up the chance to at least get your hands on it.

Agreed it's an amazing sword. . . Worth going for . . . Like OP said the best dps would be Falling Guillotine so don't stress nabbing this one if you already have a good Brave 1. Side note Brave Attunement is coming back so you can always do that too!!!

TLDR: Strike is Rough if you need a good sword wait for Brave Attunement to come back.

Eager Edge + Cold Steel or Relentless + Bait n' Switch.

Two combos that I would defo recommend farming for.

The sword is deceptively fun, and while there are other options out there can provide a unique combination of many great traits with slow via cold steel, movement on eager edge, chain reaction for Ad clear and can even make for a decent/unique damage roll in bait n switch (requires much less heavy ammo unlike whirlwind).
It's not the greatest in any category but provides alot of coverage with what it has.

Got bored and picked up 8 adepts... What I can say is I don't know what's wrong with it right now. Sword shows Stasis affinity everywhere except in game while equipped. While equipped it shows as Strand, procs Strand artifact mods, etc. And yes, I made sure I was not using Strand loadout with a permeability roll. Very odd and likely bugged, but I'm getting off topic.

The sole reason I farmed this was for eager/cold steel which dropped 1st.. Yay.. With my main focus to gather data for eager well/shatter skate on CONTROLLER lol.... I can honestly say I did not see benefit using Slammer over enhanced eager on The Other Half or standard eager on Half-Truths. I tested shatter skate using Stomps with 100 mobility and well skate with 30 mobility.

Both well and shatter skate, I traveled further and faster using The Other Half which made sense given enhanced perks, but it made less sense when using Half-Truths without enhanced eager. Maybe I did something wrong or tested wrong roll, but I feel I used most relevant combo's, Slammer with Eager/Cold Steel and another roll with Eager/One For All. So there isn't any question, I used and am only speaking for Adepts only.

The whole Strand affinity thing has me perplexed and makes me feel a little happy due to procing Strands artifact mods the way it does. Today I will be testing with Stasis artifact mods to see if I can get the same results as with Strand. Let me know your thoughts guys, and please take it easy on me in the comments. Later!

DPS wise this sword is actually quite bad even with Bait'n Switch.
But having Bait'n Switch on it isn't bad since free damage is free damage + This sword is purely a Utility sword so it having access to Eagers and Coldsteel / Bait'n switch just means it can be used everywhere.
Though if you are going to use a sword for damage there is much better options than this sword.

lmao, this is just factually untrue. The two are identical sword frames, which means their base damage is identical. Falling Guillotine rolls with Whirlwind Blade which grants a 30% damage buff after landing 10 hits to gain 10 stacks of the buff. Slammer rolls with Bait & Switch which is a 30% damage buff after doing the 3 weapons damage. They're the same in terms of max damage output, but Slammer can get there slightly faster.

whirlwind can be kept up for as much ammo you have, and a friend and I tested damage on the first boss in warlords ruin and I was hitting about 1.3 million with guillotine and he was hitting between 600,000 to 1 million with slammer adept, so either something is broken with bait and switch on this weapon and needs to be fixed or its just less damage. I will say that the sword is very good for utility purpose, eager edge is very good for skating and cold steel has good uses, but just as a damage sword its not very good.

Slammer can't get their faster though because every 10 seconds you need to reproc BnS by switching between weapons while under a boss and being slammed which tanks your DPS and even total damage by a lot lol. Whirlwind is never going down once it's up making it not only the more consistent option but just better for everything anyway overall,

So I saw a test of this earlier today (pretty sure youtube) comparing the two and the damage came out with Falling Guillotine pulling slightly ahead. Their swaps weren't the best so I imagine they could get to similar or possibly higher numbers but considering the ease of use; If Vortex frames every get buffed to do good single target damage, the Falling Guillotine might still be the easier one to do damage with without much difference between BnS.
