TIP: New Season & Popularity Ranks

It's a new season! Popularity ranks can change rapidly at the start of a new season, especially on new weapons.

Be careful jumping to conclusions for a week or so as the meta starts to shake out.

TIP: Popularity Ranks

The letters F thru S below are Popularity Ranks. They measure how popular your roll is versus the most popular roll for this weapon among the global community. The most popular roll is ranked S+. The least popular is ranked F-. Popular doesn't necessarily mean "good"; unpopular doesn't necessarily mean "bad". Use what you enjoy!

Got a Relentless Strikes and Whirlwind Blade roll off of the Umbral Arrival Engram and all i can say about its pve damage i that it's borderline illegal. This sword has to be one of the main highlights of the season, weapon wise.

That thing was too big to be called a sword.
Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it was more like a large hunk of iron.

Surrounded is NOT the way to go for this beast. Relentless and Whirlwind turns this into what I would say is the best heavy in PvE. Effortless one phase Zulmak? Check. Primeval dead at x1 easily? Check. Absurdly good ammo economy, the ability to insert a mod and Lucent blade turns this into the ultimate weapon. This season is dope. DOPE.

absolutely ridiculous in pve right now. with the combination of whirlwind blade and heavy attacks, this thing melts bosses. get your entire team with the sword, use well, bubble and tether on the new dungeon boss and you can one phase him with some help from oppressive darkness.
in pvp, its not going to be better than black talon since that thing has a range attack, but falling guillotine's lingering hitbox from heavy attacks can catch people off guard.

Jagged Edge, Swordmaster's Guard, Relentless Blade, and Whirlwind Blade is PVE godroll imo.

Ah yes... the original, the best, better than all the rest. Only a literal damn Chainsword and a sword with slightly more base Impact than normal have ever surpassed this beautiful, master crafted masterpiece of a blade in sheer popularity in the sword meta... and at the time of writing, this is still the No.2 most popular sword, and the most popular Vortex Frame. Thats right, its the rightful successor to grandaddy Darkdrinker itself, the Falling Guillotine!

What is there to say? 3 perks in slot 3, 4 in slot 4. Perfectly matching numbers, low for a weapon and yet it contains everything this weapon needs. Relentless Strikes is perfect for being economical with your ammo between sessions of spinning to win, Tireless is less popular with this weapons clear ability to do big DEEPS, and Energy Transfer is wasted on a weapon that would much rather be making like its namesake and decapitating the Aristocracy... the Aristocracy being the massively tangled family tree that is the Hive. Every slain Ultra or Elite is a direct descendant of the Hive Gods, and an act of rebellion! Vive La Revolution!

[Cough]... Anyway, slot 4 has En Garde (no amount of fancy French will save said perk from being bad, unless that French is 'amélioration', which is French for 'Improvement'); Counterattack (which is still bad after its nerf yoinks ago and really needs a duration increase); Surrounded (which while winning points on Bequest will not surpass the winner here); and the obvious best option, Whirlwind Blade (it works on a per hit basis, which makes a Vortex frame an ideal pairing due to its multi-hitting heavies). The stats speak for themselves - 73.6% of Guardians agree that Whirlwind Blade is 'The Best (TM)'.

If you were lucky enough to play during Arrivals, you could even own a Falling Guillotine with multiple perks, such as mine that has both Surrounded AND Whirlwind Blade (no Swordmasters Guard, but hey 4/5 is more than good enough when Charge Rate can be modded up). Otherwise your best bet is to keep an eye on Banshee and Xur. Its possible it could drop from Dares of Eternity too - check the front page on that. Regardless, it is the opinion of this humble reviewer that EVERYONE should own a Falling Guillotine for home defence, just as the Iron Lords intended.

There are things that make you wonder, is it even legal? This is one of them. This is the Gjallarhorn of Destiny 2.

Disgustingly powerful, I halfway expect this to be the catalyst for a sword nerf at some point.

It’s the Dark-Drinker disguised as Cloud’s Buster Sword, what more can I say? Completely eats everything in PvE, you can quite literally melt bosses in seconds, it’s really fun and the lingering hitbox makes ad clear with this stupid efficient. In PvP it functions like any other sword but instead you can spin to win against all your enemies, also the lingering hitbox is OP in PvP.

This is the most Manga looking sword in the game and performs so well that BANSHEE-44 no longer issues sword bounties. He will instead give you Linear Fusion Rifle bounties. Whirlwind combined with Relentless strikes are devastating tools for the soloist grinding away. This sword is so good the game seems to almost discourage you from using it. Prior to that my sword of choice was Abide the Return. This is a little slower but better with the perks mentioned.

I got the curated roll from the season pass rank rewards and this thing absolutely melts everything in its path. Definitely going to try for Relentless w/ it, but w/ sword finder and scavenger I don't have a huge problem keeping ammo stocked up as is! Definitely recommend for grinding strikes, contact events, gambit etc

Great sword, especially for a Legendary. Get a Charged with Light build with Supercharged and 4 stacks of Charged with Light then go to town on boss with Lucent Blade and the spin attack and watch bosses drop.

So yeah, Easily one of the most fun weapons to go ham with. you still reading this? go get it!
side story, reading the other reviews around Falling Guillotine here made me want to upvote them (particularly the Berserk Reference) so I went to upvote, I needed to sign in.
I said to myself 'fine', then signed in. when it was done I found out that light.gg is able to look into my stuff and show me what's good and what isn't.
I didn't know that. I have been tabbing in and tabbing out of this website for about 3 days now, constantly searching up weapons to manually judge their perks one by one,
just to shave off some storage on my 580 slot filled Vault. I think you can imagine how long I was banging my head into the desk.
