TIP: API Perk Swap
The Bungie API now allows us to swap weapon perks for you*. Click individual perks below to swap them in-game. Click "Equip Popular Perks" to pick the perks that result in the highest popularity rank (if you're not already using them).* You must be in orbit, a social space, or logged off.
In my designs, I've kept in mind the function of the firearm's predecessor, and I would like to note that my ultimate goal was to make these weapons into excellent companion tools for both the MIDA Multi-Tool and the Peacekeepers exotic Titan boots equipped with the Quick Charge mod's secondary function Ever Ready.
----------------
PVP Roll
----------------
For my PVP roll, I've opted to use Smallbore + Accurized Rounds + Enhanced Moving Target + Enhanced Tap the Trigger.
* Although I could get away with using the likes of Extended Barrel or simply use Corkscrew Rifling (aka the most popular barrel as of writing), I opted for Smallbore's focused +7 to both stability and range. Knowing that handling is effectively a dump stat with Peacekeepers and the Quick Charge mod, avoiding anything to do with handling seemed rational. For those less worried about stability, Extended Barrel or Full Bore are the routes to take for min-maxing the snot out of your range stat.
* As for Accurized Rounds, it was a no-brainer. The Calus (and consequently the MIDA) Mini-Tool's biggest weakness is/was effective range, and buffing that was a priority. Ensuring the weapon's function in the PVP sandbox is critical for this roll to succeed, even if the weapon is inherently inferior to others.
* With Moving Target, I selected this perk out of sheer preference. Although it sits behind Unrelenting and Graverobber in popularity, this perk is easily better than both when the assignment is to laserbeam whatever's in front of you. Not only that, but this perk ensures that the added mobility of the build remains in-sights as well as out. Though I would recommend this perk for a PVP roll, it loses out in the PVE world compared to everything else in this slot. Avoid it there.
* And lastly, Tap the Trigger. Perhaps the highlight of this roll, Tap the Trigger is the world's most effective easy button on Controller for making your SMG fire smooth like butter. Even at 57 stability, the weapon is extremely effective at remaining on-target while the perk is active. I would recommend this perk over other perks in this slot due to how easily it negates bad stability, and would strongly recommend this perk if being used with a destabilizing barrel.
For mods, I recommend Recoil Dampener, Sprint Grip or Target Adjuster if you're using a similar Peacekeepers build to mine. If not, I would give consideration to Quick Access Sling for fast ready-up speed.
----------------
PVE Roll
----------------
For my PVE Roll, I've opted to use Arrowhead Brake + Flared Magwell + Enhanced Unrelenting + Enhanced Incandescent.
* Out of all available barrels, and after some testing with Chambered Compensator and Smallbore, I've come to conclude that this is one of the best barrels I can provide for the weapon. By removing the need for a Recoil Dampener in order to keep the gun completely under control during sustained fire (and granting the weapon a whopping total of 64 Stability), I've opened up avenues for the use of other Mods. My recommendations are either Minor Spec or Targeting Adjuster.
* As for Flared Magwell, you really aren't limited to this one. Though I chose it for reload and stability (the prior actually being something of a weakness on this gun without the aid of perks like Feeding Frenzy), you can really get away with anything. Keep in mind that range isn't a priority stat for a PVE Mini Tool, as the goal primarily is to effectively deal out destruction as fast as possible.
* Ahh, Enhanced Unrelenting. This is where things start to get spicy. I would actually recommend Graverobber over this perk due to how cheesy it is with things like the Titan "bonk build", but Threat Detector also works- even if it's too neutral for an effective Solar 3.0 build.
* Last but not least, the mighty Enhanced Incandescent-- aka Incandescent 2: This Time It's Bigger. A god-tier perk for any PVE build, and one that deserves all praise it receives. For those unaware, at the time of writing, the healing capacity of Solar 3.0 is incalculable. You can unleash the wrath of God with so much as one Sunspot and the Restoration buff, becoming nigh unkillable as you shrug off any and all forms of ammunition unfortunate enough to meet your titanium skin. It spreads your holy flame to everything it kills, enabling your bonkers Solar 3.0 build to do it's magic. For those looking to eat the rank and file like an appetizer and strike fear in the hearts of all majors who challenge you? Definitely a worthy perk.
In PvP, it's no Shayura. It has strong perks with Moving Target and Tap the Trigger but it's held back by a mediocre range stat and considerable competition with other SMG options. With the special ammo changes you could run it with MIDA but I'm not sure how viable double primary actually is. I'll need to test it out.
Overall great to have it back and definitely seems like a strong pick for PvE add clear in conjunction with Solar 3.0. For PvP, there are better options.
My friends, use sturm and drang.
For PvP: Moving Target and either Eye of the Storm or Tap The Trigger for big boy aim assist, but the max range is only 17.8 meters.
Thats still not as good as SMGs like Submission or Funnelweb with the same ranged perks both of them being over 20 meters.
I mean it's still useful but not as competitive in pvp.
But god said:
jokes aside, this is a really strong PVE gun, incandescent is a really fun perk that you can summon solar wells with easily, you can also spawn sunspots with the scorchkills from it
and in PVP, it has competition but it definetly still remains to be a very strong contender.
Only problem is when it comes to more pinnacle content friendly perks it can roll with disruption break but the lack of OFA or Frenzy knocks off 1 start for me personally.
With that said I am absolutely loving the roll I have right now with Surrounded + Threat Detector + Surround Spec which gives me up to 40% extra damage on a primary and in most content including the seasonal activity containment its been a blast to use threat detector also makes this thing feel like lightening and when you get it going with surround active its an add clearing machine.
For pvp I would personally go with either Tap the Trigger/ Eye of The Storm, and anything like moving target, threat detector or air assault would work. Just make sure to spec fully into range with Accurized, Hammer Forged over Full Bore since it has no stat penalty and a range MW. Its not the best smg for pvp if you are wanting to be competitive or min max but it still decent for just goofing around.
PS: It still viable in dungeons and such just wouldnt use it in a master raid or grand master nf personally.
This is my favorite PVE Smg in the entire game, it has insane synergy with the solar subclass, and works well even without solar. It has good stats, a decent enough origin trait, and has great perk combos.
*For PVP go for moving target or threat detector paired with Tap the Trigger or Eye of the storm. Go for range and stability, so Smallbore with accurized rounds with range or stability masterwork.
*For PVE, go for unrelenting, threat detector, or grave robber in the third column, and incandescent or surrounded in the fourth.
This is my most used weapon besides recluse and witherhoard, it feels amazing, has amazing capabilities, and does great in all levels of pve.
(Shhh, nobody likes it when you say somebody in Bungie did something right) < lol
Great weapon for Season 23
For PvE, this is a solar 3.0 workhorse. I’d go either Unrelenting/Threat Detector + Surrounded/Incandescence.
Enhanced Surrounded + Surrounded Spec on a primary is definitely worth looking at in PvE and incandescence is a great Chain Reaction style explosion for Ad clear.
- Arrowhead Brake (Useful for tightening up the recoil to 100).
- Flared Magwell (For the reload speed, making it near a flat 2 second reload time when gaining the extra +2 from masterworking it).
- Enhanced Threat Detector (given that it's limited range, I find that Threat Detector is better for my playstyle as it is almost always active. Unrelenting is another good perk to go with it for the health regen if you want to play a safer route).
- Enhanced Incandecent (This is the bread and butter of what makes this gun so good, as it makes it an ad clearing machine! A must have if you are wanting to hit the full potential of this weapon).
- MW: Range (this is to compensate for taking Flared Magwell instead of something with a bit a range, you could go Reload Speed as well if you really want to reload faster than the SCUR-V + Thunderlords reload speed bug. However, I would say that it would be a bit overkill as Flared Magwell + Threat Detector should give you enough reload speed and Threat Detector doesn't give you any range).
- I run the minor spec mod as this weapon is primarily for ad clearing, not so much a boss shredder (even though it does still do some decent damage to bosses).
I'm not much of a PvPer, but I could feel that Unrelenting + Incandecent could be a clutch perk combo for PvP for the health regen.
