First, about the OG recluse roll from the BRAVE quest. That roll certainly still isn't bad, but also feels way less powerful in today's sandbox than one might expect (compared to something like Calus Mini Tool with Scorch and easy ways to proc radiant).
Especially with MoA now only giving 15% bonus damage, which is the same as frenzy but reliant on kills and without a reload bonus, the OG roll lacks that "oomph" the weapon had back then.

In my opinion, what will make it a meta pick compared to the other 900 RPM void SMGs is the ability to roll Feeding Frenzy + Destabilizing Rounds or even Repulsor Brace + Destabilizing rounds. The first combo could also roll on The Hero's Burden from Iron Banner, but Recluse is easier to farm and also has a way better origin perk. I think Elements 3.0 synergy is really important in what makes a PVE weapon feel powerful nowadays, it makes add clear so much easier compared to normal damage perk options. And since you're generally unlikely to use an SMG in higher level content where choosing elemental synergy over a damage buff would noticeably hurt you, it's my preferred pick.
If you already get volatile rounds through other means like Gyrfalcon's, it doesn't feel that different to Funnelweb and mostly comes down to which reload and damage perks you like more, although I think Recluse has overall better options.

After testing many different rolls, I found myself returning to one basic roll.

Reload Masterwork - Smallbore - Flared Magwell - Repulsor Brace - Desperate Measures

Let me explain why:

This gun can be defined with one word. Compromise.

If you have any experience with the original gun, this version is immeasurably disappointing. We all know that Master of Arms is barely even a shadow of its former self, but nearly every other perk was gutted as well. Recluse, at base, has two major issues. Reload Speed and Range. Truthfully, it's a flaw in the archetype. The Recluse has the highest range in the archetype and still feels stubby. The OG roll came out before Feeding Frenzy and Ricochet Rounds were nerfed and back then these perks outright cancelled the inherent flaws of the gun. Feeding Frenzy used to give you the entire benefit off of a single kill, and ricochet rounds had a range scalar that has since been removed. (I'm willing to bet that range scalar is why the gun has such a low zoom to begin with, a vestigial balance decision for when zoom was coupled with range.)

Without the range scalar from Ricochet Rounds, it's more likely that you'll be engaging closer to the enemy for the gun to feel effective. Even if you max out range (which you shouldn't) you're still more likely to be in harm's way. That's why I think Repulsor Brace is so good. It's not just extra health, but more damage resistance as well. Sure, this doesn't make it possible to engage from longer ranges, it just makes engaging at closer ranges safer. I know for a fact that Repulsor Brace has kept me alive in situations where I otherwise would have died. It is so much more valuable than any other perk in its column. Which begs the question "OK, how do we deal with Reload?"

Well, the obvious option is Frenzy... until you use it. The activation time is just too long. Sure, once it gets going it's alright, but the gun feels awful when it isn't active. No, it's a better idea to double down on damage perks. Surrounded may seem like the best option, but it only activates at 8m which puts you in danger that Repulsor Brace can't negate. Target Lock? Lol. LMAO even. That leaves Master of Arms and Desperate Measures. I'd recommend Desperate Measures if your build focuses on grenades, and Master of Arms if it doesn't. Considering that the origin trait gives you 5% grenade on kill if you're on a light subclass, and this gun synergizes very well with void, a grenade build isn't hard to pull off with this gun. So I'd recommend Desperate Measures.

This means we rely on the Barrel, Magazine, and Masterwork to make up reload and give us a little extra range. I don't like giving up 70+ stability on this gun, but we have to. That brings us to Smallbore, Flared Magwell, and a reload masterwork. Put on a loader mod and you've got the most consistent feeling version of this gun.

Is this roll as good as the original? No. Like I said, this entire gun is a compromise. Nothing you can do will make it feel like the original, but even in a compromised state, it's still the best Void SMG in the game. I'd still rather use Recluse over Funnel Web any day of the week.

The gun doesn't feel that different from Funnelweb but having a built-in Demolitionist Trait and Repulsor Brace gives it the edge. I got a roll of Repulsor Brace and Frenzy which has since become my Voidlocks new best friend.

The dream SMG for most Gyrfalcon's Hauberk builds. Third slot rolls replusor brace, fourth slot can roll FIVE different damage perks, the one you prefer is entirely up to you ,of course; however Frenzy or Desperate Measures might be my picks, Frenzy due to the handling and reload increases, and if I'm not mistaken, Desperate Measures can stack up to 3 times for a 30% damage increase.

Best light void smg for pve right now, Repulsor brace + Destabilizing Rounds is my go-to, but I'll also have one with frenzy/master + reload perk just in case. In PvP it's also pretty decent, dynamic sway reduction + tap the trigger and you'll get a really consistent gun, and master of arms its just a better armony if you preffer that.

My first drop was Corkscrew/Full Bore, AP/Lt Mag, Repulsor Brace and Surrounded. This is a close quarters weapon, so the combination of Repulsor and Surrounded + Gyrfalcon's is really solid. Big purple delete key. Huge fun.

Got one with Enlightened action and master of arms that I prefer to the curated roll, it has lightmag to make up for the reload speed of feeding frenzy being higher and on M&K the stability isn't an issue. Its not a standout like it originally was but its still enjoyable

As of the final shape sub machine guns do not feel as good as they did pre final shape. But with the recluse, having master of arms go back to a 25% damage increase on x2 and then fall back down to a 15% at x1 makes it much more viable than before. I recommend a reload perk like enlightened action or feeding frenzy for pve builds if you aren’t building into void debuffs. I personally have been using enlightened action and master of arms which works quite nicely. The origin trait still puts in work and is even better for prismatic builds where most people are using light supers and grenade builds. Haven’t had any good drops for PvP but I think precision smg’s like Shayura’s outshine recluse with more range and similar PvP perks. But if you enjoy the feel of the higher handling faster firing archetypes, dynamic sway reduction/threat detector/hip fire grip with tap the trigger/ maybe target lock/ and desperate measures/master of arms could pair well with peacekeepers on titan.

I Have now tested multiple rolls together with 2 of my Void hunter builds for low- and midgame content like the normal onslaught all the way up to wave 50 and also some strikes and gambit.
the 3 rolls is tested:
Full bore / Armorpiercing / Repulsor Brace / Destabalizing rounds
Polygonal rifling / Ricochet Rounds / Feeding Frenzy / Master of Arms
Extended Barrel / Extended Mag / Subsistence / Master of Arms

All these rolls feel very good to play i am a fan of the 900RPM SMGs atleast for PVE. I also only tested them in PVE since i am not a PVP player but anyways...
The 1. roll feels super nice to play Repulsor and Destab make this weapon a very good option for red bar add clear and give me the overshields i need to survive with out any problems but it feels like i am reloading very much and waste a good amount of time with that, but it was still a option for me to run without needing any other way of gaining Volatile. A solid 4,3/5

The 2nd tested build was the worst for me personally i am not a big fan of having reload perks like Feeding Frenzy in this case, It makes the reloads super fast but i still do have to reload, welp i have to do that either way but i could get other perks in this column like repulsor for these sweet overshields or subsistence for just a bit of ammo from kills ( 17% ) to be exact. I would rate this at around 3,8/5 not bad no but just not my taste.

And finally after this way to long review on a weapon in a game that no one will read the 3rd roll.
My Fav roll out of these 3 even tho i am still grinding for subsistence / Destab, the feeling together with supplying volatile from other sources make this roll really feel like my new Fav SMG, giving me a very good add clear for my void hunter. Ofc like i said on the second roll i have to get volatile by myself, this is not hard to do but it takes way a fragment slot which could be used for weaken on Grenades or something else. But the big thing making this the best roll so far is just the subsistence giving me ammo for Days and me just killing more and more mobs also getting my Grenades back faster because of the BRAVE Weaponry trait makes it even better. A 4,8/5

Now i am just grinding till i get my personal 5/5 drop with subsistence / Destab Making this my personal BIS void SMG for now with it being this easy to farm and coming in the "shiny" version.
Good Luck on your adventures Guardians ^^

I wholeheartedly agree. I felt like I was reloading far too often with repulsor brace and destabilizing rounds. Being able to get volatile rounds from gyrfalcons, destabilizing doesn't seem needed. Subsistence and Master of Arms fills that gap.

Complete the BRAVE quest for this gun and you get a masterworked version with feeding frenzy and master of arms, it's essentially identical to the old recluse perks wise but also barrel and magazine.

The old recluse is still one of my most used SMGs in the whole game so I'm glad to see it back and not being sunset anymore but now there is also some other great perks to look out for aswell now that it's possible to get different perks on it, overall definitely worth going for some perks on this gun now allows for some great synergy with void builds overall but even on it's own it stands up well.

I got the MW version with FF and MoA, and honestly it's...fine. It's not amazing, it's mediocre, it's no different in feel to a Funnelweb and I'm pretty sure MoA is doing less damage than Frenzy.

It does the same damage, but you lose on the handling and reload speed as a trade off for a perk that has an easier activation condition in PvP. In PvE : Frenzy is straight off better than MoA

The reload speed leaves a lot to be desired as far as smgs go. Feeding frenzy is kinda useless on it as well cause it rarely gets above x2. So maybe enlightened action or subsistence is the way to go to stretch ammo farther. This thing reloads slower than some (or all) hand cannons.
