PVE: This shotgun can roll with 4th Times + Vorpal which will give you free bullets out of thin air every 4 crits when dealing DPS. Blasphemer can have 4th Times and Swashbuckler. Stat-wise, this shotgun has better stats and a better perk pool than Blasphemer. For a more consistent damage output, I recommend this shotgun with Arrowhead break, Appended/Tactical Mag, 4th Times, and Vorpal.

Those who are wondering: "Why not assault mag! It brings up the RPM!"
In that case, yeah it does if you really care about RPM that much, but with 4th Times The Charm, there's math involved also. By default, there's 5 in the mag. So, you have Assault Mag: 5-4=1 left in the mag +2 from 4th Times = 3. It doesn't end off on 4 bullets in the mag and, in turn, won't be able to maximize the amount of times you can shoot this weapon. Tactical/Appended on the other hand, give you 6 bullets in the mag: 6-4= 2 left in the mag + 2 from 4th times = 4 - 4 = 0 + 2 from 4th times. You're able to hit a total of 10 shots. Blasphemer and this shotgun are the only ones that can roll with 4th times, so take advantage of it!

PVP: Arrowhead, Assault Mag, Demo/Opening Shot or Perpetual Motion/Opening Shot. You can always rely on a good ol' Opening Shot roll. Demo would be good for Warlocks and/or grenade builds. Perpetual Motion is more of an all rounder. There are better alternatives, aka Blasphemer with Quick Draw and Opening Shot.

In conclusion, both are easy to farm and highly recommend going with whatever you're comfortable with. The recommendations above (specially PvE) are situational and are totally up to preference.

I can't say much on the PvP side since I don't PvP, but, for PvE, Demoltionist + Wellspring means you get 40% of your grenade energy back with a single kill. Throw on HEavy Handed and another Arc mod and go nuts with a shotgun that heals you, gives you thousands of grenades, and looks fucking awesome.,

10/10 gun.

PvP has surplus/threat detector and opening shot, PvE has FTTC and Vorpal. Even after the slug nerf, do NOT sleep on this gun.

This weapon is very good, obv there are better alternatives but it's very easy to farm. I got one of this with surplus and opening shot and I think is an overall good weapon

(PvE) Lucked out and rolled Demolitionist + Osmosis, which means it's a grenade-to-activate void shotgun with high-explosive bolter slugs, that resets grenades with every third kill and reloads by using more grenades. Volatile flow and Nezarec's as needed for added cheese

(PvP Score Only) FYI with adagio, it turns this weapon to a one shot in PvP so its PvP score being that low is abysmal. PvP God Roll is
Hammer Forged or Fluted, Assault Mag or Accurized Rounds, Unrelenting, adagio and Range MW or Handling MW
Why Unrelenting? The reason is for quick one shot kills with adagio for healing.

No longer the case anymore sadly, adagio was nerfed from a 30% damage bonus on shotties to a 20% one which is just enough for this to no longer work :(

I feel like this is a seriously underrated shotgun. For people like me so expect a shotgun to have some spread, pinpoint slugs are hard to use. But you get one with demolitionist and ad junkie? Forget about it

This thing with DEMO + VORPAL is a powerhouse; super fun to use.

Definitely better options/rolls for PVP, but regardless could be useful!

I managed to get a FTTC and Vorpal roll with assault mag and I think this might be replacing my heritage. While it lacks range, from what I've seen so far it looks like it can pack more of a punch than heritage can. As for pvp, It's a solid slug with a lot of good perk options

Awesome slug. I have a surplus opening shot roll that just slaps feels like gunora's axe a lot. in pve, i have a subsistence surrounded roll that is awesome on shotguns since you are close to multiple enemies typically. Also using it with parasite combo for some dps stuff and it is actually a very good combo for strike and dungeon bosses.

this is overall my favourite kinetic slug shotgun in the game, despite heritage’s continued existence. this is really due to its ease of farming- just run strikes, you’ll get a good roll pretty easy. in addition, despite lacking some of what makes heritage incredible (hipfire, better stats) it benefits by having some exceedingly interesting perk combinations. in pve, i adore my demo + wellspring roll on void 3.0 builds with low disc, and demo + aj is super neat in both pve and pvp for its unique bodyshot potential and its overall usefulness for tearing through majors. speaking of, it also rolls with vorpal which is literally never bad to have. however, the pvp god roll i’m going for is fluted barrel, accurized, threat detector, and opening shot with a stability/range mw. this is because it’ll have close to 75s in range and handling, allowing for opening shot (after the s17 update) and quick charge to round them out to hundreds. this gives fortissimo unique functionality in its quick swap potential, being the theoretical fastest slug in the game with threat detector. in conclusion, fortissimo is certainly not the best slug in the game, but it’s easy enough to farm (going in the world loot pool next season too!) and is unique enough at what it does that it confidently entrenches itself in the meta. expect to see a lot of these in crucible, post-sandbox change.

since i don't see anyone talking about it here, adagio in pvp gives you one shot body shots, kinda nutty

unless, that enemy has 100 resil, in which case it will leave them at 2hp, swash always kills cause it's a 33.3% dmg buff rather than a 30% that adagio gives

Recently tried out shotgunning from being a long term sniper and this gun just felt amazing. It's comparable to having a sniper that you can use in short ranges, highly reccomend snipers to give this a go or even normal shotgunners for a change up in playstyle

Basically every potential Slug Shotgun you could want in one. Aside from endgame traits that originated in Raids (Wewind Wownds, Bait and Switch, Recombination, Reconstruction, etc), the Fortissimo has, like... everything. As long as it's in the Kinetic slot, the Fortissimo can be it. I'm not really sure what else to add on that, just because... I'd have to say so many repetitive things. Boss damage, PvP, add clear (even if that'd be a questionable use of Slug Shotgun ammo long-term...?), and any more granular roles that branch out from there, the Fortissimo does it.

This is one of those guns where I'd say it's more justified than usual to have multiple masterworked copies, just because it has so many (good!) perk combinations. Just... have fun grinding for it (or them), since it's a ritual weapon, meaning it's 1) got a huge perk pool and 2) isn't craftable ;-;

A lot of people on here saying 4th times + vorpal is the way to go but Demolitionist is better. To put out 10 shots with 4th times you need a mag boost perk or backup mag mod for that base 6 shots. You don't need any of that with demo, so you can use assault mag to boost RPM and make up for the time it takes to throw your grenade. And your grenade does extra damage on top of the 10 shots. 4th times has better ammo efficiency, but for straight damage Demo is where it's at

PvE So many combos + vorpal on a kinetic slug enough said.

PvP Forget people saying opening shot. it ONE SHOT bodies after a kill with adagio thats super slept on at the moment. Simply absurd for pvp. Might drop chaperone for this beauty not kidding.

Incredibly versatile weapon with a massive perk pool of great combinations that benefit all of the niches of slug shotguns. Includes Adagio on a slug shotgun, which turns the weapon into a one-tap on the body in PvP. To top it all off, this gun is very easy to farm and has strong origin perks.

I have a Subsistence/Osmosis roll. Let me tell you, this thing with Volatile Rounds is devastating. Don't sleep on that combo. Obviously you're not gonna run a shottie in 1580 content but for everything else, have fun.

This slug shotgun has some very powerful perk combinations it can roll with, countered by the large pool of perks it can run with. However, even with that there are a TON of extremely good rolls to look out for.

4th Times or Lead from Gold + Vorpal is a godly combination (especially 4th Times if you got any mag increasing perk instead of assault mag) for boss damage and champion slaying respectively, as is Demolition + Osmosis or Wellspring or Adrenalin Junkie, and hell even Adagio may be something to keep an eye out for. If you can afford the vault space, FTTC + Focused Fury may be worth keeping for a 'What-if' case if Bungie buffs focused fury on special weapons/primaries at some point, but the 15% buff from Vorpal on special weapons without the ramp-up period for FF's 20% buff would require 12 total shots before FF did equal damage to Vorpal on a boss or champion. FTTC+Mag increase, Anything else go for Assault Mag ideally for PvE

For PvP we have some good combinations, but there are a lot of other options that do similar things

This thing’s honestly pretty great. Adrenaline Junkie notably can 1-shot Guardians in Crucible after obtaining a 5x stack (one Grenade kill even if this weapon is stowed at the time) so I’m chasing that roll.

actually not a terrible alternative to heritage
for pve you'd wanna go for fourth times the charm, vorpal/frenzy, mainly a backup boss damage roll for if you run out of heavy though

for pvp there's a lot of good rolls, surplus opening shot, perpetual motion moving target is also an incredibly good combo, also can roll with 96 range (full bore, accurized, range mw)

just overall not a bad shotgun, you're gonna be grinding a bunch for the exact roll you want to get though since it is a world drop
