Q: What are masterwork rolls?
A: Most legendary weapons are capable of being Masterworked. The masterwork system is a way for you to upgrade your favorite weapons to their maximum potential.
Q: What does it take to upgrade a weapon to a masterwork?
A: Upgrading your weapons, in broad terms, takes a small amount of glimmer, legendary shards, and, most importantly, Enhancement Cores.
Depending on what Tier your weapon is at, the requirements to raise it to the next tier increase the closer the weapon is to being fully masterworked (Tier 10).
Q: What benefits do I get for masterworking a weapon?
A: Each tier that you increase your weapon will grant a small buff to a single stat, chosen randomly when the item drops.
Beyond that, at Tier 5 you gain access to a kill tracker. At Tier 10, your multi-kills will generate orbs of light.
Q: So what are these "masterwork roll" stats?
A: These are the possible stats that upgrading your weapon will grant a bonus to. Depending on what tier you are at, you can grant anywhere from 1-10 additional points in any of the stats listed to your weapon.
Q: Any catch with this?
A: The Bungie API currently says that all weapons can potentially roll with all stats as their masterwork stat. This obviously isn't accurate, as Blast Radius isn't applicable to, say, Auto Rifles.
The list you see on this page is trimmed to only show stats that actually appear on the weapon. However, it is possible that Bungie has additional logic behind the scenes that further filters these
possibilities to, for example, prevent certain items from being able to have an Impact masterwork. Until Bungie modifies the API files to 100% accurately display which masterwork stats are possible on
each item, take what you see here with a pinch of salt.
Frenzy is 15% which is better for general play and Whirlwind Blade is 30% at full stacked, which is better for boss damage.
ive got 2 rolls and neither have done this :P
+ trials momento makes it a literal golden S tier speedrunning sword = the weapon collector's DREAM (if u have one, i don't YET)
Not anymore, with patch 6.2.0.7 (2022-04-10) the first swipe ends EE. Probably necessary given the potential for PVP.
But enough about the hypotheticals, lets talk facts. This thing rolls Eager Edge in Column 3, which is absolutely what makes it stand out and what gives it its niches. You could use the standard sword array of perks, but they aren't Eager Edge - a.k.a. the entire reason you would want to use this or Half-Truths as opposed to a non-adaptive sword of the same element. Whether you're a speedrunner or just like closing gaps, this perk is great. As for pairings, Repulsor Brace is alright for a Void focused loadout, Surrounded is a situational but strong DPS perk, Frenzy is a fun and easy perk to trigger (and works wonderfully with the need to stow and take out the weapon to reproc Eager Edge), Whirlwind is self-explanatory DPS, and Vorpal is... actually kinda mid? Its only a 10% unconditional boost, and Whirlwind is right there, so... Just pick Eager Edge and your choice of second perk and go nuts.
As for PvP... you're looking at one of the kings of swords in that meta. Eager Edge allows for lunging at Guardians from insane distances, allowing for easy kills without the usual Sword issue of 'getting shot before you can get in range to kill'. Vorpal is the natural pairing to better deal with opposing Supers on the off chance you have to challenge one.
Lastly, this versus Half-Truths. For PvP, Half-Truths will barely edge out due to having access to Tireless Blade to pair with Eager Edge, giving it even better ammo economy, while in PvE it really comes down to personal preference. The Other Half is rarer, comes in Void flavour rather than Arc (which looks better IMO, but personal preference), and Eagers in column 3 lets it pair with damage perks, while Half-Truths is more common and can pair Eagers with a standard sword array perk like Tireless Blade. Really, the difference between them comes down to what you want to use the sword for ASIDE from Eager Edge shenanigans as well as personal aesthetic taste. You can't go wrong with either... you know, unless you don't pick Eager Edge like a dummy.
