"No he dicho eso. Es que… ya tienes cuerpo de máquina. Y superpoderes.

"¡Yo no he dicho eso!".

Mechabre. God, I love its sounds. Mecha is 100% my jam (username based off Tallgeese Gundam!), and even if it isn't the best sniper in the game, I am damn sure going to be using this in PvE just for the sound alone. Let's talk rolls to hunt for before this mad-lad disappears.

The Mechabre is one of 3 energy Agg Snipers, competing with Frozen Orbit, Occluded Finality, and The Long Walk. Frozen Orbit has an ENORMOUS perk pool as a crucible sniper, though it can roll TT/Clown + Vorpal/HIR, though chasing those rolls is an enormous pain. Occluded can roll Firing Line, but has no compelling 3rd column perk for ammo economy or generation, and lastly, Long Walk fares the best with either Clown/Overflow + F.Line/Frenzy, though farming the Long Walk can be tedious, as it is one of four drops from the Phalanx Encounter in Prophecy. In the Kinetic slot, the competition is stiff with the Silicon Neuroma, the only Adept Agg frame, which can roll a spectacular TT + F.Line. Succession gives you neat rolls like Recon + Vorpal/Recomb(which requires kills to stack up), but doesn't quite compete.

All of that is to say that there aren't many decent, easily farmable DPS snipers currently in the game, with the exception of Silicon Neuroma, Succession, Thoughtless, or Defiance of Yasmin (see how all of those are kinetic?), or maybe Long Walk. That is why Mechabre should ABSOLUTELY be on your list to farm for before it disappears.

Let's get into perks. Magazine choice - at a base mag of 3, Mecha suffers. Contrary to the light.gg stats above, when combined with Backup Mag, both Appended and Extended Mag get you to a base magazine of 5, making Appended clearly superior as it gives you the most options without destroying reload speed. In the 3rd column, your primary choices are Triple Tap (TT) and Clown Cartridge (CC). These pair with specific 4th column perks - TT w/ High Impact, and CC with Vorpal. When looking at CC, a base magazine of 3 can either get 4/5 on reload, base of 4 can get 5/6, and base of 5 can roll 6/7/8 (RNG).

Here's the numbers:
Headshot on Carl, no perk or mod:
Base - 29,698
Vorpal - 34,153
HIR:
5 - 29,698
4 - 29,698
3 - 34,090
2 - 37,343
1 - 37,343
Nice! HIR does some magic with the mag, giving max damage on the last 2 bullets! At a glance, that totals a 13% damage increase across the magazine. With a 5 round magazine, TT (which procs twice), AND HIR, that increases to a total 15.25% dmg increase - barely better than Vorpal's flat 15%. But with a 4 round mag:
4 - 29,698
3 - 33,361
2 - 37,343
1 - 37,343
Again, the last 2 bullets get the full bonus! That's an easy 15.9% buff to magazine damage. With TT, the damage increase per mag gets *even* better, at 17.9% (shooting 4,3,2,2,1)! And that's even before a Major/Boss Spec gets added in. With Major spec, which acts multiplicatively with HIR, you get a whopping **26.1%** damage increase across the mag, falling behind ONLY Silicon Neuroma with TT + F.Line + dmg Mod or Long Walk with Overflow + F.Line + dmg spec.

So, to the rolls.
1. TT + HIR w/ Tactical (For 4 in mag and reload bonus) > Appended > Extended, & Boss/Major Spec. Highest initial DPS with good total damage, very front-loaded.
2. CC + Vorpal w/ Tac>App>Ext. Clown HAS to reload AND doesn't generate ammo like TT, so it suffers the most from an Ext mag. This roll has more consistent damage, with no activation conditions, which will give it more consistent DPS over time, but a lower spike of damage compared to roll 1. Lower initial DPS, but higher consistency, with an expected dividend bonus of 15% REGARDLESS of when the DPS phase ends. If you want to use backup mag, it pairs best with App or Ext to get that max 5 round magazine to combo with CC.

Note - all of the damage numbers above are damage per magazine. These numbers are not representative of in-world DPS values incorporating reloading, missing shots, and damage over time.

PvP - I'll let someone with more PvP accumen get this weapon reviewed. Keep an eye on FalloutPlays (he made a special comment about reviewing this gun) or CoolGuy for their better informed PvP opinions. That said, Eva's curated Mecha from completing the initial quest is QUITE toasty, with Snap + Opening, Accurized, Smallbore, AND Range MW? Hot dang, Eva, calm yourself. Outside of niche picks like Moving Target and No Distractions, Eva is gives us a 5/5 god-roll.

Gun Feel -
Oh
My
Mecha.
Get in the robot, Shinji, this gun sounds incredible. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm testing this gun solo with Search Party active, but it feels snappy, even without Snapshot. It's stability leaves a bit to be desired, but the handling feels smooth compared to Frozen Orbit or Long Walk. The sight is mostly open, except for its large green bars, and the 45 zoom pairs well with its natural range. And the sound. I just can't even... 10/10 sound design.

TLDR: Get it before its gone

I would do testing on the Bunker E15 Hydra due to it being a boss target whereas Carl is a Major so the scaling is inconsistent on Carl. But yeah Mechabre is just so good. I have 7 total rolls

Well for PvE, TT + HIR with a 5 mag only outdoes TT + Vorpal by under 600 damage, and with a 4 mag TT + HIR it does 26640 less than the 5 mag vorpal, so overall vorpal is better here since you always have the higher damage, HIR is still good but Vorpal is better for consistency

Hello.

I just got the sniper with TT and Vorpal.

The thing is...I got Tactical mag and I can only get the mag to 4, even with backup mag.

Is there a bug or a mistake on my part?

TM says that it increases the magazine size.

So...what is the problem here?

I checked d2gunsmith and only appended mag can get the magazine to 5, with backup mag.

TM and EM can not get to 5, even with backup.

Solid sniper, very good considering it's an event weapon.

PvE: Clown Cartridge + Vorpal/Voltshot is solid for a sniper. Snipers arent in the best place for pve but if they improve this will be a good pick. Clown Cartridge guarantees the same amount of bullets as triple tap without having to hit shots

PvP: Snapshot + Opening shot is just handed out which is amazing. If you want a better one than the one that is handed out go for fluted barrel to max out its handling.

It sounds good to me.

If ALH holster can proc voltshot (unlikely as it doesn't proc other perks which activate off reloads like clown cartridge) then it can be a decent option, but don't think it would be better than the standard TT + HIR combo

Edit: I just got an ALH and Voltshot roll to drop and can confirm that ALH does NOT proc Voltshot as expected.

Considering event weapons are usually very niche (The Title, Something New) or just outright outclassed (Cold Front, Y4 Jurassic Green), Mechabre is a breath of fresh air. Very solid snipe, we haven’t had an energy 72rpm Snipe since… last I checked, The Long Walk reprised from a year ago. Mid-to-low zoom, decent stat package, and a suite of perks ranging from elite to interesting, Mechabre is going to be a fan-favorite sniper for sure.

PvP, it helps that grandma Eva gave guardians a near-perfect roll of Snapshot/Opening Shot with max range. I would’ve opted for more handling and/or stability, but Snap/Opening are what make the gun super good in the crucible. If, for some reason, those aren’t your fancy, Perpetual Motion and No Distractions in C3 are alternatives. Especially since sniper flinch got hit recently. Over in C4, Vorpal and Moving Target are all tried and true, though getting Swashbuckler x5 up and following up with a cheeky one-shot bodyshot is funny.

Over on the PvE side of things, you have your classic perks in Triple Tap, Clown Cartridge, and Autoloading Holster in C3; Vorpal and Hi-Impact Reserves in C4. We’ve also got Voltshot here, which gives this sniper an ad-clearing niche. Your closest alternative would have been Beloved with Incandescent, but I think Voltshot is better for hi-end content, where you’re targeting majors and need the red bars around them to die quickly. Jolting the major and letting your Jolt damage shock the red bars to death from a distance is nice.

Great snipe overall, don’t sleep on Mechabre.

I kid you not, literally everyone who was sniping in the crucible the day this came out was using it, and for a good reason! 45 zoom, aggressive frame, snapshot/opening shot, quite possibly the best in slot as far as pvp snipers go. that and eva literally handed out a god roll for free. for pve, triple tap, clown cartridge, ALH, voltshot, vorpal, all amazing perks. something I would consider for those of you who like to take jumpshots, try using extended mag for the +10 ae, combined with icarus giving it a base ae stat of 30, which is good enough to hit aerial shots.

Seriously a fantastic weapon. The base roll everyone is given is already one of the best you could get, and then on top of that the possible god rolls for both PvP and PvE are that much more incredible. PvE has numerous god rolls, as does PvP, and there are only a very small number of perks which you could say are not good. If you don't have a good PvE roll on this (cause everyone already has one of the best PvP rolls), I highly suggest you got and get one, cause I got the feeling that this baby is gonna see action everywhere once people get their own god rolls.

Amazing sniper in PvE. Since it is a 72 RPM sniper, it really shines for boss damage. For that, you'd definitely want to go after Triple Tap and High-Impact with the extended mag, which has more DPS and total damage combined, than one with vorpal. Can't say much about it in PvP. Very solid sniper, with also very good looks, and sounds awesome.

The snapshot/opening shot roll that was handed out...I was hitting shots I had no business hitting using a cobbled together build (I was doing a bounty that required me to wear the mask). Sound this thing makes is phenomenal. Only thing is I wish the zoom was a little lower but I'd say its pretty good.

I suck at sniping but this is the only sniper I actually like or feel comfortable using in PvP. I love this sniper and this is by far my favorite sniper rifle in the entire game. 11/10 Bungie and will always use it as I have 7 rolls. It just has EVERYTHING you want for a sniper to be honest.

shout out to all the people getting god rolls on their drop of the weapon lmao. but in all seriousness, looks good, feels good, snapshot + opening shot is ezpz for a pick. not the best sniper, not the worst, but hey for the event, if you dont have sniper, great to have if you get the god roll dropped like a lot of people are for some reason xd.

For PvE i dont see a huge reason for using it, sure hold on to the triple tap/auto loading + vorpal for a rainy day, but dont we have too many of those as is?

I believe this thing to be an absolute nightmare to fight against in PvP, and an absolute godsend in PvE. We all know that Eva decided to troll the Crucible by blessing every single Guardian with a godroll PvP sniper, but I managed to get an absolute opposite godroll for PvE. with the combined power of Triple Tap and Voltshot, I can delete swarms of adds, I can make bosses cry, and I can jolt the same bosses I am currently headshotting multiple times in a row. Life is good.
