It's a new season! Popularity ranks can change rapidly at the start of a new season, especially on new weapons.

Be careful jumping to conclusions for a week or so as the meta starts to shake out.

TIP: Popularity Ranks

The letters F thru S below are Popularity Ranks. They measure how popular your roll is versus the most popular roll for this weapon among the global community. The most popular roll is ranked S+. The least popular is ranked F-. Popular doesn't necessarily mean "good"; unpopular doesn't necessarily mean "bad". Use what you enjoy!

Incredible sniper, has all the great perks for a wide range of PVE activities. But it's a 12x12 gambit weapon so good luck having the roll you want. For real, I wish you good luck, 'cause it's gonna be tough.

I would NOT recommend intentional farming for a PVP roll. Not that the gun's bad for PVP; it does have classic combinations like Moving Target + Snapshot (in 3rd and 4th respectively), and also roll with perpetual/surplus/elemental in 3rd and Opening shot for 4th for whoever likes it. But it's an aggressive frame that tend to have miserable handling and aim assist stats, both of which are important for PVP. They tend to feel relatively sluggish and this is no exception.

Sniper rifles are not very strong in the meta game now, but they can still be fun to use and potentially great in future updates.
-- Good, but boring roll for PVE:
(barrel of your choice) + (Anything that gives you +1 mag size) + (Triple Tap/Clown Cartridge) + (Vorpal/ Firing Line/ Frenzy).
Bongo is having a display bug right now for mag sizes. In the actual game, ALL 3 size-increasing mags will give you +1 bullet (to a total of 4). Tactical mag, despite having extra benefits, WILL NOT bring it up to 5 rounds paired with Backup mag weapon mod, while Appended mag and Extended mag WILL give +1 paired with Backup mag (to a total of 5). This has to do with the hidden inventory stat, which you can look up yourself if interested.

-- Good AND fun roll for PVE:
(barrel of your choice) + (Anything that gives you +1 mag size) + (Explosive Payload) + (Vorpal/ Frenzy).
Having 3rd column Explosive is really what makes this gun unique. Explosive also makes body shots more effective, and you can have damage perks in 4th column on top of that, which is rare. Adding in HAKKE original trait, you can use it like a cannon or even like an explosive slug shotgun, and I promise you, it's fun.
You might have noticed that I am not recommending Firing Line here. Reason 1 is Explosive takes away precision damage, so FL will be less effective. Reason 2 is those supposed 2 guardians in the Firing Line will question your choice of weapon. That's inevitable, but leave those losers to their lame opinions. Whether you wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one............

Hakke sniper, very good for taking down the abundance of titan barricades in Comp and trials currently.

I get to 100 Handling with Elemental, fluted barrel, handling masterwork and also have Opening Shot on it. Just feels amazing on arc subclasses and since a certain arc class ist so "balanced" right now the Albruna is a top pick.

Explosive payload snapshot sights is probably best overall roll can get bc it covers pvp and pve but who uses snipers in pve maybe hi impact reserves instead of snapshot be other good option

Moving target adds aim assist and strafe speed, way better than explo in PVP

Speaking off the top of my head, this is one of the only weapons *outside of raids* that can drop with damage perks in it's 3rd and 4th column both (Explosive Payload in 3rd column and either Frenzy, Vorpal, or Firing Line in the 4th column). With that in mind, this is already a weapon of note due to the ease of acquiring one combined with that combination of Explosive Payload and whatever of the 3 aforementioned 4th column perks you want.
In my case, I landed one with Explosive Payload and Frenzy and oh boy, does this thing actually put in some surprising work. It's obviously lacking in comparison to something like my Succession with Recombination/Reconstruction combo or my Volta with Firing Line but this is an energy weapon compared to both of those being kinetic slot.
With that in mind, that changes the competition in energy slot 72 rpm snipers specifically to Frozen Orbit and Mechabre. In my case as my aim is questionable at times with snipers specifically, my Mechabre already runs into issues with Triple Tap's usefulness coming into question if I can't land crits. As for my Frozen Orbit, my Albruna is more forgiving just because Explosive Payload adds AoE and does more raw damage due to Explosive Payload.

You're free to take this info as you see fit. Personally, the only issues I see with Albruna is it only drops from Gambit and the fact Succession, Volta Bracket, and Mechabre exist (and do better boss DPS). If you're hunting enemies smaller than a boss but bigger than a standard red bar though, that Explosive Payload in 3rd column might do you pretty well.

With Lightfall, ECap gives you airborne 20 AE, and with Thread of Ascent granting you 30 AE after a grenade ability is used; you can get 78 AE on a HIGH IMPACT SNIPER. With Fluted and a Handling masterwork, you can get a solid 51 handling on it (forgot to mention, Ascent also grants handling, so you can nearly max it out) which can be supplemented with Dex mods. Pairing this on a hunter with the Facade helmet, you can get Woven Mail AND Flinch resist, without the need to spec into a load of stability. This thing is BUILT for PvP players who want to hit funny, hyper-aggressive clips. This thing is crazy with the release of Lightfall, and it will be a shame to see no one use it, due to its acquisition.

Also, the classic Triple Tap Firing Line cope roll for snipers is always a bonus for the PvE players.
