The Lament
The last thing the Vex ever heard—the grinding wails of a vicious Banshee.
FROM THE DESK OF CLOVIS BRAY
Dear… me.
For one who has delved into some of the greatest secrets science has to offer, you would think I'd find speaking with oneself rather monotonous. However, this very letter represents a successful culmination of all I have worked to achieve.
You'll have questions, no doubt. Hopefully by now, the AI has answered most of them.
Except one: Why?
Legacy, of course.
…Is the answer you'd expect from me. And rightfully so. It's not wrong, but it's only part of the story.
Frankly, I'm alarmed. For all my successes in scientific research, I have lacked any substantial findings of an afterlife. All I can find is death. An infinite nothingness. No remembering my loved ones, no seeing them again. No feeling their touch, or hearing their voices.
In my pursuit of eternity in this reality, I have foregone those niceties. Abandoned them. But you are a second chance. An opportunity to continue what I started, and hopefully in time, make amends with those I've wronged.
Attached to this letter, you will find a gift. A blade built just for you.
Keep it close. Never let anyone else take it. Stay alive.
For legacy.
Seriously, this thing Alt-F4's everything. Primeval? Gone. Riven? Get fucked. Strike bosses? Don't even have to try. Wanted Enemies? May as well be a red bar.
Let us speak Its word, as It fuels the Fire of Devotion.
Let us fight Its Battles, as It fights the Battle at the End of Time.
And let us join It there, for Duty ends not in Death.
In Vengeance be True, in Valor be Strong."
~ Prayer of Titan from The Litanies of Ordination, a book of the Travelers Faith
Its a gods damned Chainsword - visuals, sounds, and all. By that right alone does this sacred blade baptised in the Radiolarian Blood of the Vex earn its place as King of Swords. But it does more than earn that right. The Lament is bar none the HIGHEST DPS SWORD IN THE GAME, thanks to Banshee's Wail. On top of doing the best damage of any Sword in the game, it also has Anti-Barrier properties AND HEALS YOU when it does damage, making it the best Sword at survivability as well. In ANY situation where CQC DPS is possible, this beast of a weapon will be a contender, with Legend of Acrius right behind it.
The Lament has historically been the ruin of many a Dungeon and Raid boss: it was optimal for Atraks prior to the release of the burst damage monster Parasite, and is still a very viable option there. It is THE Exotic weapon of choice for bringing down the Hive Prince Crota - fitting, for a Xenos Conqueror to be lain low by a blade worthy of the Imperium. It turns the first boss of Warlords Ruin into a literal joke, clashes most mightily against the Nightmare of Galhran, and remains a solid option against any other boss close enough to be ripped and torn apart.
However, even a weapon as perfectly forged as The Lament has its faults, minor though they may be. It has exactly two weaknesses: the first is that its not particularly great in PvP. The Sword meta for PvP is ruled by Eager Edge, with ammo economy, ranged attacks and gap closers being the priority. The Lament at least has Tireless Blade, so you can get good ammo economy out of it, but swapping your Warhammer Chainsword for a Halo Energy Sword would probably be better. Its second weakness: it doesn't have a Catalyst. Which just makes its achievements all the more impressive, doing all that with just two exotic perks. What could a Catalyst even do for this almighty blade? Only time will tell.
Suffer not the Machinoform, the Wormbound, or the False Gods. Go forth and strike them down in the Travelers name! Bring its Light unto the foe, and smite them with Holy Steel!
Don't waste the exotic slot for PvP, however. Use Bequest, Gilloutine, Hook, or Black Talon instead.
Lament: I don't even know who you are
