Sojourner's Tale

Home is just over the horizon.

The pipes are silent.

Ether production is paused during batch loading, and in that interstitial time, Spider's lair feels like a tomb. Every creak and groan of his throne becomes excruciatingly pronounced. Spider reclines against one arm, rolling a dead Ghost's shell in one hand, scraping a clawed finger across its gray, lifeless eye. The arrival of a trusted associate pulls Spider from his thoughts.

"Avrok," Spider bellows, turning his attention to the armored Eliksni striding through the doorway, "what did you find?"

Avrok approaches Spider's throne, wringing his hands together anxiously. "Our thief, my lord."

Spider leans forward with a groan of the cables suspending his throne. "And what did you do to them?" he asks in greedy anticipation. That, however, is where Avrok falters.

"I did not… catch them, my lord," Avrok humbly answers, his much smaller frame eclipsed in Spider's shadow. "But I have a name."

"Out with it," Spider grouses, falling back against his throne with deflated interest.

"The Crow."

Spider's blood turns to fire. His grip tightens on that dead Ghost so hard its shell cracks. Spider continues squeezing it until the glass eye completely pops.

Then he takes a moment to compose himself.

"Our little bird, come home to the nest so soon? Tell me everything."

"He was able to infiltrate the storehouse," Avrok explains, "and coerced a team of laborers to offload cargo promised to the empress onto a Skiff, which he then… stole. Along with a cache of your more—ah—personal belongings, among which was the quantum opal."

Avrok shrinks lower, lower, lower. "The supplies were delivered to Mithrax. In your name. As a gift."

"And the workers?" Spider growls.

"They are gone?" Avrok doesn't mean to make it sound like a question, and regrets taking the tone immediately.

"To where, exactly?"

"They…" Avrok takes a small step back from Spider's throne. "Left." He clenches his jaws. "With the Crow."

Spider slowly leans forward again.

"For Earth," Avrok concludes.

The Ether pipes begin to hum and rattle as a new batch begins production elsewhere in the complex. The noises rise in intensity, turning into the familiar hissing wail that joins with the uncomfortable sound of Spider. Laughing.

The Baron of the Shore throws his dead Ghost at Avrok who ducks away from it, covering his head with his hands.

"He's taking them to Mithrax," Spider says between fitful chuckles and wheezing coughs. "He steals—from me—and gives it to the House of Light? Unbelievable." Though behind the laughter and coughs, there is a hint of appreciation in his tone. "The kid's grown a spine."

"There is," Avrok starts, offering Spider a folded piece of paper, "one more thing. He left this behind." Spider's seal is scribbled on one side. "For you."

As Spider unfolds the note, Avrok creeps further away from the throne. Inside is nothing more than a crude drawing and a rude missive.

"That little sh— "

The pipes are howling.

For PvE, two rolls stand out to me: Heal Clip+Incandescent and Discord+Harmony. Precision Instrument and Auto-Loading Holster are other perks to look out for if they fit your playstyle. The rest of the perks are very underwhelming.

Who is insane enough to use a shotgun for add clear?

I recommend keeping at least one shotgun with Discord, as they are very handy for quickly completing Shotgun bounties and they *can* clear clusters of enemies provided you triggered Discord with another weapon and can get a decent number of one-hit kills within Discord's timeframe.

That said, I think pellet shotguns make more sense for that than slugs, all else being equal.

Slug shotguns haven't really been in the spotlight in a while now, but there's still some things this can pull off that make it worth looking out for.

TL;DR: This is one of the rare solar weapons where I wouldn't build into subclass synergies and would probably prefer Discord/Harmony in PVE. In PVP it'd just be your typical shotgun loadout of Opening Shot plus whatever consistency perk you want in the third column.

In PVE, Discord/Harmony stands out as a synergistic pair. Get a kill with another weapon, and now you get a hefty chunk of extra damage to ensure that you can one-hit tankier enemies and you also get ammo refunded, alongside some accuracy and ADS speed and whatnot. Heal Clip is perfectly fine, but I find it works better on ad clear weapons because it's just always active and topping your HP off as you use it. Incandescent is a great perk, but its biggest use case is when you kill a few enemies in a group to cause an ignition; this is why weapons like Tyranny of Heaven and Nullify are such great weapons - they include an AoE that can help you get that ignition from one kill because of the extra volume of "weapon damage" that can get those second and third kills. Outside of that, Incandescent softens up enemies in a group so you can knock them down faster with primaries. All of these features seem wasted on a slug because you'll mostly be one-tapping anyway.

In PVP, this gun unfortunately lost Threat Detector in the third column from its old perk pool, which is always a useful perk in PVP because of the handling stat and scalar, and the info the HUD gives you. You'll probably want Opening Shot and either pair it with Quickdraw or Moving Target for the neutral game, or Discord for the free ammo if you think you can chain a primary kill into this weapon. Offhand Strike is also there for those shenanigans, but there isn't much to pair it with because Opening Shot has a cooldown and you'd only be able to make use of both perks together if your second kill is between that 3-7 second post-kill window. I should also point out the potential for one shotting to the body - Harmony can't do this alone, but with Radiant it can at any resilience. Armor surges are also an option to pair with Harmony, but one mod only works up to T6 Resilience and you'll have to stack them to improve that. Swashbuckler on the other hand will naturally let you one shot to the body if you prime it to 5x with a melee kill, and you don't need any additional damage buffs so it's more subclass independent.

Come for the reprise, stay for the funny lore.

For PvE, take your pick from dahmage and utility. For the former you have Auto-Loading Holster + Precision Instrument, for the latter Heal Clip + Incandescent. Origin Trait for both is easy to proc for a Shotgun, and synergises with both options. You will have to be on point for Precision, however, and it likely won't beat over the likes of Nessas Oblation as a damage option in the Energy Slot. Additionally it faces stiff competition from this seasons Suros world drop Legato-11, another Solar Slug Shotgun with Heal Clip + Incandescent, but with Vorpal over Precision Instrument and Triple Tap as an opt-out for Auto-Loading - so it beats this out as a swap DPS weapon, but the Origin Trait here probably makes this better add clear - then again who doesn't use a Primary for Heal + Incan? Its not like theres a shortage of them.

For PvP, Quickdraw/Moving Target + Opening Shot. However, once again this gets contested by Legato-11, which can have Lone Wolf + Closing Time. Legato also has slightly better stats where it matters, so it's a very close decision to make. Ultimately it comes down to personal preference regarding perks - faster swaps and better opening shots, or taking advantage of lower mags and no allies nearby? It's your call.

Overall, I find it hard to recommend Sojourners in PvE. Other slugs do dps AND ad clear better, and the world drop solar slug released this season arguably does both just as good. In PvP it certainly has good options going for it but is again contested by the world drop. In the end it quite literally comes down to personal preference - do you like this guns aesthetics, sounds, and origin trait? Do you prefer its perks over others? This is a tale YOU will have to write for yourself...

I didn't really need another pvp shotgun, solar or pinpoint or otherwise. But it's got it where it counts if this archetype is up your alley.

This weapon has good rolls for pve, but it's still a shotgun. Pinpoint Slugs have been hit-or-miss for me. Never thought I'd see a day where Heal Clip + Air Trigger existed as a possible pair, and it was kind of funny. I much prefer my Discord + Incandescent roll though (I have enough Heal Clip + Incandescent weapons, and that pairing is better on primaries and the solar rocket sidearm).
