Xenophage

This might sting a little.

There was only darkness… until there was Light. Again. A third time.

I knew it. Knew I'd be back one day—only this time, I was something else. Something… not Human. Not by choice, of course. Those damn Hive. They weren't just tryin' to kill me. They were using me to get to my Light. To drain it from my soul. For their sick experiments.

But the idiots screwed up. They didn't just drain my Light. They took the whole lot. The entire thing. Soul and all. I'm still me. I'm just not the me I knew. The one with two arms and two legs. I'm something smaller now.

But honestly, it's no bother. The fire inside me… it came too. And it rages now more than ever before. The fools have no clue what they've done. No idea the price they'll pay.

I'll have my vengeance. In this life, not the next.

Well now we see the problem with reviews: If a gun's updated, you're still left with your exceptionally angry bad take. After the 2.7.0 update, Xenophage has cemented itself as a fairly solid, if unspectacular, long range damage option that combines the strengths of a Grenade Launcher with a Rapid Fire Sniper Rifle. Don't judge this thing as a machine gun, it's not designed to have the same medium-range suppressive fire capabilities.

Giving it a five star rating to balance the score just because some loser decided to give it one star before its even out

2 shots guardians, even invaders in gambit, nonsense range (in gambit u can take down ppl with 2 shots from across the map).
Also one of the most used for boss damage in raids with divinity

When Xenophage first came out, everyone complained that it was a subpar machine gun because of the small magazine, the slow rate of fire, and the lack of critical damage. But as time went by, people realized they were wrong.
Think of it as a hybrid between a grenade launcher and a sniper rifle. If you use it like that, you'll find that it can excel at clearing yellow bar enemies, dropping bosses and mini-bosses, and even deliver top tier raid boss dps.

Had a raid group with 5 Xenophage and a Divinity and the bosses didn't stand a chance. Also, getting cross mapped in gambit is pretty fun. 5/5 stars.

In PVE the beauty of this thing is its simplicity. It can't crit without using something like divinity, but it's dps is still in the upper tier of heavy weapons. The fact you don't have to worry about placing your shots while shooting from range means this gun is pretty unique and always a solid choice.
PVP it 2 taps at 0.5 seconds so again, its not the best but its solid. Gambit you can cross map invaders with 2 shots

I have terrible aim and this gun can't crit so it's really great, I hit the enemy anywhere and it does the same amount of damage. I've used a lot of power weapons, nade launchers miss, rockets are slow and tracking isnt great, linear fusions have a charge time, snipers flinch when you take damage. This weapon doesn't have much flinch when under fire, fires right away and does decent damage, so I use it for a lot of PvE activities to clear mini bosses and named enemies.

this thing does an incredible amount of damage on impact. practically just a horrifyingly powerful sniper that hits like a boulder. and then you get hit by another boulder. and another.

I’ve seen this thing finish off strike bosses before they could even deal any damage, extremely annoying to deal with in PVP, as it can be used to wipe out a full squad fairly quickly, 11/10 would use again

I know this gun has quite a history, but I saw the ratings for it and I can't believe it is still so low. Thought I'd throw it out there for any newer players that might actually read this stuff that Xeno has long been established as a top exotic. It is a goto pick in some raid encounters, master content, etc. This weapon is not "good" or even "great", it is meta. THE most efficient choice for certain activities. Also decent in gambit, leave it home for crucible.

Think of a slightly faster firing Jotunn, but for heavy slot, and no tracking.{Probably why they have not added crits}
This thing hits majors/ elites like a freight train going Mach 7. It can wipe out entire mob groups with a well placed round.
I thought this was a clever idea. We already have fast firing death spitters, why not launch comets instead?
Granted, it does suffer a bit on bosses but it’s too much fun I frankly understand WHY it doesn’t crit.

One of the best for DPS against bosses and mini-bosses. In PvP it is very lackluster.

if they make a cayt that adds more ammo and adds scorch to cause ignitions (and ignitions on kills), this will be s-tier

It can two tap guardians from across the map, but as a heavy, ammo is rare. In PvE the Xenophage is at its best. It works like a sniper rapid grenade launcher and enjoys the 40% damage buff to LMG's (but not the 20% added buff to bosses).

Works with Explosive Wellmaker and well generate an obscene amount as you're melting adds and yellow bars. One of my favourite guns right now.

Really solid against things like snipers, e.g hobgoblins and decent for boss dps, holds a lot of ammo, takes out huge chunks of health with no charge time whatsoever and not the hardest to get. Also great in PVP as it two shots from ridiculous ranges but unfortunately, heavy ammo so you can't use it all that often and it takes up both a heavy and exotic slot.

Another one of those funny Exotics that's listed as one weapon but functions like another, Xenophage is more of an automatic micro-rocket-launcher if rockets were hitscans instead of projectiles. Long effective range and high-damage explosive shots compensate for a slow fire rate and small ammo capacity for a Machine Gun. Good at most things.

On PvE, it's a solid option for hunters and Titans with actium war rig because reload build basically maintains the dps the same, and 95% you'll never kill your dps with mistakes unlike other guns. It's especially useful on bosses with a small crit spot like Sanctified Mind. Also very good at taking out majors like on the second garden encounter.

On PvP and gambit it's decent. 2 shot any distance kills any guardian, and being a 120rpm helps a lot too.

For the people that is complaining about Xeno not doing Crit damage, it shouldn’t. There are pros and cons to EVERY weapon. Though this weapon is darn accurate and hits like a truck, it’s downsides are lowered magazines than a normal Machine Gun and no Crits, if it can basically two shot a Champion without a crit and people need the DLC for then it shouldn’t crit. My only concern is that the Catalyst should up the Magazine and that’s it.

*Don Corleone Voice* “Look how they massacred my boy..”

The gun feels so much worse with the RPM nerf to it. It’s still good for melting yellows but the slow fire rate basically makes it a non option in a season dominated by RLs and Threaded Needles/Sleepers. This gun needs a catalyst to bring it back in line with other exotic powers imo

Still a fun unique gun to use though. Can two tap in pvp but again idk why you’d use it over Gjallarhorn or any RL/Linear

Due to the recent nerf to other weapons this weapon is actually ok, great for dps and it is sustained would be good if they kept the current body damage but include a crit
crucible, two hit no damage drop off is ok but 2 hit is to many
