TIP: New Season & Popularity Ranks
It's a new season! Popularity ranks can change rapidly at the start of a new season, especially on new weapons.
Be careful jumping to conclusions for a week or so as the meta starts to shake out.
TIP: Popularity Ranks
The letters F thru S below are Popularity Ranks. They measure how popular your roll is versus the most popular roll for this weapon among the global community. The most popular roll is ranked S+. The least popular is ranked F-. Popular doesn't necessarily mean "good"; unpopular doesn't necessarily mean "bad". Use what you enjoy!

Mec-abro
The Mechabre is one of 3 energy Agg Snipers, competing with Frozen Orbit, Occluded Finality, and The Long Walk. Frozen Orbit has an ENORMOUS perk pool as a crucible sniper, though it can roll TT/Clown + Vorpal/HIR, though chasing those rolls is an enormous pain. Occluded can roll Firing Line, but has no compelling 3rd column perk for ammo economy or generation, and lastly, Long Walk fares the best with either Clown/Overflow + F.Line/Frenzy, though farming the Long Walk can be tedious, as it is one of four drops from the Phalanx Encounter in Prophecy. In the Kinetic slot, the competition is stiff with the Silicon Neuroma, the only Adept Agg frame, which can roll a spectacular TT + F.Line. Succession gives you neat rolls like Recon + Vorpal/Recomb(which requires kills to stack up), but doesn't quite compete.
All of that is to say that there aren't many decent, easily farmable DPS snipers currently in the game, with the exception of Silicon Neuroma, Succession, Thoughtless, or Defiance of Yasmin (see how all of those are kinetic?), or maybe Long Walk. That is why Mechabre should ABSOLUTELY be on your list to farm for before it disappears.
Let's get into perks. Magazine choice - at a base mag of 3, Mecha suffers. Contrary to the light.gg stats above, when combined with Backup Mag, both Appended and Extended Mag get you to a base magazine of 5, making Appended clearly superior as it gives you the most options without destroying reload speed. In the 3rd column, your primary choices are Triple Tap (TT) and Clown Cartridge (CC). These pair with specific 4th column perks - TT w/ High Impact, and CC with Vorpal. When looking at CC, a base magazine of 3 can either get 4/5 on reload, base of 4 can get 5/6, and base of 5 can roll 6/7/8 (RNG).
Here's the numbers:
Headshot on Carl, no perk or mod:
Base - 29,698
Vorpal - 34,153
HIR:
5 - 29,698
4 - 29,698
3 - 34,090
2 - 37,343
1 - 37,343
Nice! HIR does some magic with the mag, giving max damage on the last 2 bullets! At a glance, that totals a 13% damage increase across the magazine. With a 5 round magazine, TT (which procs twice), AND HIR, that increases to a total 15.25% dmg increase - barely better than Vorpal's flat 15%. But with a 4 round mag:
4 - 29,698
3 - 33,361
2 - 37,343
1 - 37,343
Again, the last 2 bullets get the full bonus! That's an easy 15.9% buff to magazine damage. With TT, the damage increase per mag gets *even* better, at 17.9% (shooting 4,3,2,2,1)! And that's even before a Major/Boss Spec gets added in. With Major spec, which acts multiplicatively with HIR, you get a whopping **26.1%** damage increase across the mag, falling behind ONLY Silicon Neuroma with TT + F.Line + dmg Mod or Long Walk with Overflow + F.Line + dmg spec.
So, to the rolls.
1. TT + HIR w/ Tactical (For 4 in mag and reload bonus) > Appended > Extended, & Boss/Major Spec. Highest initial DPS with good total damage, very front-loaded.
2. CC + Vorpal w/ Tac>App>Ext. Clown HAS to reload AND doesn't generate ammo like TT, so it suffers the most from an Ext mag. This roll has more consistent damage, with no activation conditions, which will give it more consistent DPS over time, but a lower spike of damage compared to roll 1. Lower initial DPS, but higher consistency, with an expected dividend bonus of 15% REGARDLESS of when the DPS phase ends. If you want to use backup mag, it pairs best with App or Ext to get that max 5 round magazine to combo with CC.
Note - all of the damage numbers above are damage per magazine. These numbers are not representative of in-world DPS values incorporating reloading, missing shots, and damage over time.
PvP - I'll let someone with more PvP accumen get this weapon reviewed. Keep an eye on FalloutPlays (he made a special comment about reviewing this gun) or CoolGuy for their better informed PvP opinions. That said, Eva's curated Mecha from completing the initial quest is QUITE toasty, with Snap + Opening, Accurized, Smallbore, AND Range MW? Hot dang, Eva, calm yourself. Outside of niche picks like Moving Target and No Distractions, Eva is gives us a 5/5 god-roll.
Gun Feel -
Oh
My
Mecha.
Get in the robot, Shinji, this gun sounds incredible. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm testing this gun solo with Search Party active, but it feels snappy, even without Snapshot. It's stability leaves a bit to be desired, but the handling feels smooth compared to Frozen Orbit or Long Walk. The sight is mostly open, except for its large green bars, and the 45 zoom pairs well with its natural range. And the sound. I just can't even... 10/10 sound design.
TLDR: Get it before its gone
I just got the sniper with TT and Vorpal.
The thing is...I got Tactical mag and I can only get the mag to 4, even with backup mag.
Is there a bug or a mistake on my part?
TM says that it increases the magazine size.
So...what is the problem here?
I checked d2gunsmith and only appended mag can get the magazine to 5, with backup mag.
TM and EM can not get to 5, even with backup.
